RE: Mixing Cough Syrup with Milk
Your not going to like this but one time when my grandaughter was 3 my daughter and I had to hold her down and force medicine on her. We only had to do this once now at 4 she cries but takes it. We call this the mommy law ie we're the big people and this is best for you. Its our way or else. We tried everything else, making it a game, tricking her and bribery nothing worked. We give her alot of love and prep time before during and after. Oh and always make sure the favorite cold drink is handy for afterward. Good luck. ... View related article.

RE: Dog Always Has Body Odor
Wow you got a lot of good advice. I would like to add mine. You need to start with a clean slate, clean and vacuum all of the bedding were your pet lays use the arm and hammer baking soda carpet fresh for pets in whatever scent you like your dog shouldn't care. Shake it on and leave down 5-10mins longer then recommended then vacuum it all up (vacuuming helps with fleas and flea eggs which causes tape worms if the dogs eats either of them which they will because it makes them itch the fleas are attached to their skin and the eggs/larve are attached to the fleas in most cases) do this on everything that is to big to fight in your washer and use warm to hot water treatment is kind of like lice on the heat factor not the chemical factor). Also if your dog goes outside check your yard for the nastiest smelliest things if its dead and long dead your dog is gonna roll in it as dogs especially your bred (I know I have one) will always go back to it especially when your dog is clean and dry, they will make a bee line for it as soon as they hit the door which will be in a dead run.

Believe it or not what is good for a baby is usually good for most animals ie...baby shampoo, baby sunblock etc. you can use it in their face on their eyes and ears just don't flood the ears, and it won't hurt them they won't even feel soapy part, and they love their face being rubbed.

I usually give my dogs 4 shampoos first one for fleas and greasieness starting with the head and working my way down to the anus and back feet being last then the baby shampoo give a good lather with all the shampoo because with the size of your dog by the time you get to the rear, the head is dry or dry suds and you want wet sud/lather, lather again after each type of soap and rinse really really really well (it will make them itch if you don't rinse well) then follow up with a medicated shampoo check with your feed store usually whats good for a horse is good for a dog follow directions on this bottle you want the most of what the product offers, then some sort of foofoo smelling shampoo.

You can check the anul glands google it or check with your vet its pretty easy once you know how to do it just keep your face out of the way. A good game of tug of war with a clean old knot tied sock (i once had a cat who loved peppermint floss) laced with a bit of toothpaste is good to play while waiting for your family member to dry and will help with bad breath.

If he doesn't like the paste just use the sock acts like a floss when played properly. Your dog is still young at 11mths/2yrs to be fully grown he's just starting to fill out so the blood test which in fl is $50 and checks for immunity problems might not tell you how to help him if its even accurate for his age he is still growing and building all those immunities. If he's not itching, and your checking what he's rolling in (outside and inside)keep him and his glands washed and rinsed well every 2 weeks at least (don't wash him in dawn dish liquid unless hes greasey and then rinse really well).

His attitude immunity system and growing spurt isn't finished yet. Any tests you run isn't going to be completely accurate so save him and your money till it does the most good. I bet he's rolling, keep him bathed and rinsed should work let me know. love to my rainbow bridge im gonna be flocked ... View related article.

RE: Puppy in Heat Started to Pee in House
spydede its pets not pest (sorry). Dogs and cats can be sterilized after their last set of immunization shots regardless of age, if that's what you choose to do, it is healthier for her and she will live longer. If this is her first "heat/season" she's hasn't exactly figured out whats going on in her yet, and (sorry to put it so frankly) she might be mad at you (being the alpha). If the urine is controllable meaning she squatts then you must have the utmost patience. She's scared confused and doesn't get whats going on yet and there might also be something she's seriously not into outside maybe even afraid of.

I would give her love when I walk in the door, try to keep to a timed schedule for her routine, talk to her all the time as I'm cleaning up her mess and never ever use bad dog, bad girl maybe, check the neighbors for other dogs or pets then start all over again (should be easier this time) maybe even get a doggy door, remember what they say about pms it can be a b&^%$! One thing to remember about training animals is the 3 second rule, after 3 seconds they totally forget what they've done, you got to catch them in the act and not totally freak out on them.

Animals pick up scents differently then people, so always show them what the did wrong or the damage they've done just don't rub their noses in it. Never ever forget to forgive and love them. Its doesn't make you a sucker. If its the later "uncontrollable urination" then you most definitely have a problem and a vet/hospital visit is in order and fast if you plan on breeding. Remember some pets are like family...do unto others as you would have unto you. Hope this helps. ... View related article.

RE: Preserving Antique Christening Gown
Take it ever so gently carefully and protected to a fabric store and ask a seamtress or textile person (someone who knows fabric).
I'm thinking interfacing (hope you don't plan on anyone wearing it again) and space bag. Thrifty and fun (maybe) be very very careful and consider any and all advice very carefully. This is your property and worth much to your family, whatever you do is going to be "on" you good and bad. ... View related article.

RE: Cleaning an Old Butcher Block Wood Table
Without knowing more about your newly acquired treasure its very difficult to guide you, but hear goes. Butcher blocks are meant to be sanded lightly and not to be finished (the food factor) its made of various woods to form one thick plank or just one type of wood made into a thick plank. What usually happens with bakers and butchers at the end of their day is a good dowsing of bleach maybe leave it on for a second or 2, just to clean it and kill any bacteria, then rinse and wipe/rub with linseed oil and maybe again if its kinda dry.

If your treasure has been finished then its not for the baker or butcher and its time to refinish. Your table is kinda old and might need other help ie rickety, wrapped etc. Time to make your treasure a treasureable heirloom. Repair refinish and restore.

Your local hardware store will help you with the stripper, again without knowing the type of wood or woods its kinda hard to guide you, but anything that's thick and that you don't have to leave on for long -20 min max, do another coat if you have to but do not scrape. Do not use a putty knife, it can leave nicks slashes and gouges which you probably have plenty of (which will leave great old character in the wood) then rinse (with a hose if possible after you wipe of the waste and old finish). Don't do the legs unless really grody. Its very time consuming and can take away from the character and age of the table/wood.

Sand lightly to bring back wood color, then bleach, little trick is to do the bleaching in the sun (don't leave wet to long, remember less is more) really brings out the color of the wood and rinse again, dry then refinish either with a water soluable poloycrylic or just linseed oil which will may need many coats/rubs.

A warning; do not use metal of any type. Your wood is old and maybe soft especially after stripping and cleaning dry thoroughly, sawdust like jo b said is cool and should even fill in any unseen cracks but no wire just use a fine sand paper (wet if possible) for your treasure.
Send us a before and after picture, wood love to see it as a treasured heirloom.
