I'm about ready to try anything. Last winter, a nest of bunnies holed up under the lady's mantle plant in my garden then proceeded to devour two large burning bushes. They started at the bottom where I couldn't see and completely girdled both bushes, killing them.
My question, though, is doesn't this stink pretty bad? I'm guessing that's the whole idea, right? But, eeeuuuwww. ... View related article.
I grow them, but I'm not sure how to collect the seeds. I could try to save you some. contact me at cheesyflasouvenir AT yahoo.com ... View related article.
If you don't mind a little mess, what about paper mache? You could use an inflated balloon for the shape, wrapping the pasty newspaper strips around it, then popping the balloon inside carefully when it's dry. (You can get lots of paper mache recipes on the internet.) Paint whale details on the dried shape. You'd have to come up with a way to make a base if you want it to sit without rolling over, maybe something painted to look like water. Or you could hang them from strings. Have fun, hope this helps. ~gloria, former Sunday School teacher ... View related article.
Thanks Cyinda, I hadn't thought about paper clay and fimo, I was thinking more along the lines of a soft sculpture, maybe out of felt. But I will definitely give the fimo some serious consideration. I have a pretty good supply of that. I think I would have to mold it around something like tin foil, though, or it would be too heavy for the tree and would take forever to dry in the oven. Thanks again for great suggestions.
Kaelle, Isn't it funny how there are so many names for this?
Oooh, jam sounds wonderful.
And yes, a more shallow dish or pan allows for the batter to puff up better. My iron skillet is just right, but a deep dish pie pan would probably work. But don't forget to melt your shortening of choice in it before pouring the batter in. Pouring batter into the hot pan/dish/skillet is what crisps the edges. ~gloria ... View related article.
Yikes! I should have mentioned that you must use an iron skillet. No melt-able parts. Or use an equivalent baking dish. So sorry. ~gloria ... View related article.
