I tried shampoo, dawn, dips, etc, but the fleas always came back with a vengeance. I also always left the products on as long as advice said to.
I can attest that FOOD-GRADE diatomaceous earth (DE) works wonders! I had ordered some off the internet, but my hubby only used it a couple of times (and sparingly). Didn't seem to work. When I went to our local Farm Store looking for something better, the owner told me there is NOTHING better (and he could have sold me anything!). He told me to dust my dog several times a week and see what happened.
I put on gloves (the powder is very drying), took my dog out to the deck and onto a chair. I had the DE in a large salt shaker, sprinkled it lightly and rubbed it all over his fur, down to the skin. (I started with the neck.) He loved the rubbing (after the 2nd time!). I did this Monday, Wed and Friday the first week; Monday and Wed the 2nd week, and all fleas are gone. It is not an instant kill since the fleas have to "walk" through it. It cuts their exoskeleton and they dry up.
It has been over 6 weeks since I treated Buddy and there is still not a flea anywhere. He has had baths, too, and I've not had to reapply the DE. This is safe for use on any animal (even cats) AS LONG AS IT IS FOOD-GRADE; NOT THE KIND YOU USE FOR POOL FILTERS! Many humans take food grade DE as a supplement since it contains 16 or so trace minerals.
DE is very light in weight and a little goes a long way! I bought several pounds without knowing about this and have lots of extra!
If you Google "Food grade diatomaceous earth fleas," you'll learn lots!
Good luck. By the way, a sprinkling (lightly) on fire ant mounds in North Florida killed the ants. They didn't just move on, they died! ... View related article.
This is what worked for our terrier/lhasa apso mix. Like another suggestion, I used the c-clamp hold on the muzzle. I went a little further, though. Calling the dog over to me, I clamped his muzzle and said calmly, "Buddy, no barking." It only took a 3-5 times and now, if he starts to bark, I just call out "Buddy, no barking" and he stops. He seldom barks at all outside anymore.
Not related to the barking problem, potty-training was accomplished in this manner: when he was a puppy, I put his leash on him and said "Buddy, outside potty." I took him outside and when he peed or pooped, I said "good boy to go outside potty" and gave him a treat. It took almost no time to train him. Now, if we want him to go before we leave the house or before his bedtime, we just say "outside potty" and he streaks for the doggy door, does both jobs, and returns. It's great and works anywhere, anytime. ... View related article.
Fastest cure I know for gout, I found by accident. I had a terrible attack and my Dr. gave me the traditional medicine. It takes a while to work (several days), so in desperation I went to Google. I found the cure and it is baking soda. Works almost immediately! I had another bout a week or so ago and took 1/2 tsp soda in 8 ozs water and got total relief after 2nd dose! Go to Google and type in "gout and baking soda." You'll find all the info you need. Good luck! ... View related article.
Best, fastest and cheapest remedy? Spritz toenails with vinegar morning and evening (apple cider vinegar or white vinegar will work fine). Toenails take a long time to grow out, so it may be a while but it works like a charm. I kinda' like smelling like a salad! One caveat - after fungus has "disappeared," continue to spritz for the next several months. Some fungi are stubborn and hibernate for a while. ... View related article.
Cornstarch is the answer. It's fun to watch it thicken and become clear. Flour will make great gravy, too, but it's cloudy. I leave my drippings in the pan, put cornstarch in a glass and add water to it, mix it well and stir it into the drippings. Bring the liquid to a simmer and stir when the gravy begins to thicken. Depending on how you seasoned the meat, you might need to add salt, pepper or whatever spices you like to the gravy. ... View related article.
Here's an old trick my Mom taught me. She used to be a printer for the state. Get a sheet of yellow transparency. Put it in front of the text and lay it face down on the glass. When you scan (be sure you are scanning in black and white or text mode) or xerox, the yellow sheet makes the black really stand out. Many times I have been able to get an outstanding copy of a handwritten page by doing this. ... View related article.
My sister is alone a great deal of the time as her husband works out of town three days a week. She got a Shih Tzu (sp?). It is small and weighs about 16-18 lbs. It is a good barking dog as far as strangers but extremely laid back otherwise. My sister works all day and Rupert stays in his cage until she gets home. I asked her what the dogs were originally bred for and found their purpose was to sit on the throne with rulers! So, it is not of the working dog class. It acts very royally and is not hyper. It's an easy dog for her to care for since she works and it's a good watch dog. We have a terrier mix, small but energetic. I wouldn't want to leave Buddy home alone all day. He needs exercise and lots of attention. ... View related article.
Puppies like to bite when they play - either with other dogs or with you.
I used Cesar's technique and my puppy no longer bites me (hasn't for months!), but bites my husband who won't use the technique. DH tries all the other techniques, but Buddy still thinks Dad's playing.
Here's the way I did it: Cesar says observe how dogs react when they are bitten during play with other dogs - they yelp, cower and whimper. Almost always the other dog(s) stops and starts to comfort them as if saying "I'm sorry, I didn't know it hurt."
I only did this twice with my puppy and his response was immediately licking and comforting me. After that, he no longer tries to bite at me when playing. He will "gum" my hand sometime, but no pressure at all. Mostly, he will lick me.
HOWEVER, you have to be convincing when you yelp, cower and whine. It's probably best to do it when no one is around - you could feel kinda' silly! Let me know if it works. CA ... View related article.
I do this for my neighborhood. First, I set up a "Group" called "HOA" (no quotes) (Ours is a homeowner's association) . Then, as I add contacts, I structure the name somewhat like this: HOA Smith, Susan - next, of course, I add the email address. This throws all the addresses together in the big address book so I can easily find someone by just typing HOA Smith.
Once I have created and saved the group, I make sure I have selected "BCC" in my outgoing email to them. I add the address book by typing HOA and the group pops up. I just click on HOA and it adds everyone in the group at one time. I send the message. Each recipient gets their copy to their name eg, Susan Smith - from me - with copies to "Undisclosed Recipients." That way, no one ever sees their email address except them and me.
It is a form of wandering jew called Tahatian Bridal Veil. It is beautiful when the tiny white flowers bloom. Keep it pinched back from time to time so it will thicken up. You can leave some trailers if you like the look. There are a number of plants that have green leaf tops and purple undersides. Grouped together, they are a beautiful sight! ... View related article.
