RE: Finding Soft Bandanas
Even though something is 100% cotton it can still be rough. For a softer "hanky" you may want to consider buying a higher grade one like from a department store - sears, jc pennys, or a suit store. Or you can make them your self. Buy a nice egyptian cotton with a high thread count flat bed sheet - a twin size will work. and cut and hem to the correct size. or for a cheaper version use one of your own older bed sheets that has softened up and cut it down. Good luck ... View related article.

RE: Bottle Your Own Beverages
Our water is very bad and really undrinkable even with filters. We buy bottled water at sams club at 4.00 for 36 bottles. Most grocery stores offer a water filling station. You can fill a gallon jug for less then .50 definitely a cheaper option. There is a problem with refilling the smaller bottles. i used to use just a couple and refill them repeatedly, but after a while they started tasting really bad. there is something about the bottles that is affected by refilling and over use. So recycle them, but not too many times. ... View related article.

RE: Oregon Governor Lives on Food Stamp Benefit for a Week
I don't quiet understand how some states give people so little to live on. When i was in college and working part time i had to use assistance to get by. For my son who was 2 at the time and myself i got about 270.00 a month for food, which i thought was really great. I was living in Minnesota at the time. I really can't understand how some states don't get that food costs so much, esp. with kids. I grew up pretty poor so i know how to buy a weeks worth of groceries with money found in the couch. First of all, most decent sized cities have that one grocery store, that's like a dented goods store, or even a dollar store or a big lots. So if i had 21. for one weeks worth of food i would get -
1 - dz. eggs - 1.09 or so
1 - 10 lb. bag of flour around 1.49 on sale
1 packets of yeast - .50
The cheap margarine 1.00
4 lb. bag of sugar - 1.00
1 - 12 pack of ramen noodles - 1.49 on sale
a 1 lb. turkey ham, i try to buy the
close date stuff. - 2.50
1 - gallon milk - 2.50 on sale or at a gas station
1 - 5 lb. bag of potatoes - 2.29avg.
A large can of refried beans - 1.00
1 - head lettuce - .99
1 lb. bag of brown rice - 1.00
cheap corn chips - 1.00
generic cheese - a 1lb. block - 1.49 on sale
comes to
$19.36
$20.72 with 7% tax
with the list of ingredients, it takes some work but, you can make 2 - 3 loaves of bread
several taco salads
turkey ham and eggs for breakfast
turkey ham and potatoes for dinner
ramen and asian noodles
and a few other things. It's important to buy different staples and to utilize restaurant condiments, like soy and sweet and sour sauce from Chinese food places and mild and hot sauces from places like taco bell. Just tell friends you collect them and ask them to grab extra at restaurants when they go. You may also want to consider the barter method. - you know hit the farmers market on a Sunday and volunteer a few hours of time helping out in exchange for some fresh veggies. Alot of farms need harvesting help , and would gladly trade product rather then cash. Check out your local freecycle for local people who may have excess fruit like apples from a backyard tree. I know we have a huge peach tree on our property, it was here when we moved in - and i don't even like peaches. And most important: always remember the story about stone soup.
I hope i have helped anyone in a pinch, i have alot of other great tips to get by - drop me a line if you need some.

RE: Keeping My Neighbor's Pets Out of My Yard
You have a few choices, make a record of your requests to your neighbor to remove their pet, i recommend recording them with a small recorder in your pocket. Take photos and video of the pet coming in your yard. Report any threats by your neighbor to the police. Call the animal control number below, see if they have any ordinances about this sort of thing. Put up a fence or sue your neighbor to put up a fence. Plant some very thorny plants around your property. I used to spray my neighbors dogs with the hose, they are okay with it. From a law website :
"Most pet control laws are in city or county ordinances. Usually the easiest way to get information about local ordinances is to contact your local animal control agency.

Alamance County,NC has an animal control ordinance. It prohibits dogs that have been declared dangerous, potentially dangerous or public nuisances from running at large off the owner's property. No leash is required, but the dog must be under the control of the owner. If your dog has not been declared dangerous or a nuisance then it is not illegal for it to be at large. A separate state law prohibits dogs over six months old from running at large at night." it may not be your area, but there could be something similar

Animal Control
Mr. Gary Godwin
1037 Coble Avenue
(704)986-3881
The Stanly County Animal Shelter houses lost, stray, vicious and unwanted animals. Three Animal Control Officers investigate complaints and apprehend stray animals which have been reported to cause damage or other problems. Animal Control Officers also investigate dog and cat bite cases and insure the animal is confined and observed for possible rabies infection. Annual rabies vaccination clinics are held every year in May at various locations throughout the county.

RE: Who Makes Store Brands?
The Target brand diapers are Pampers at least they used to be, i still think they are though. Most mac and cheese is produced in the same factory and packaged differently. And Thermasilk by Helen Curtis is made by Suave. If you want to find out more research the companies on the label try to find the parent company then you will know. I studied marketing in college and most companies will make the same product and sell it differently some to big fancy stores and some to dollar stores. Either way they make a buck. Check out this link for more info on branding.

RE: Fixing Mistakes on Counted Cross Stitch Projects
Depends on the mistake. If your close to it, going in reverse until you get to it works. If your far away from it, snip out the mistake and stitch in an appropriate color. Make sure to just snip the front of the design, pull the cut threads thru the back and cross over them with the new color. To hold them better. Or you can disguise it as something else. Make a black spot on a flower? poof now it's a bee. ... View related article.

RE: Making Ice Cream
Find a good recipe it should include ingredients such as: Cream or whole milk, sugar, salt, flavoring or fruit and some include eggs, but i don't use the ones that do. Put into a ice cream maker or if you don't have one a Ziploc bag or bowl will work too. Mix your ingredients well, pour into quart size Ziploc bag seal tight, you may even want to tape it shut. Fill large gallon size bag with ice and rock salt, put the quart size into the bag with the ice. Seal the gallon bag. and shake well. You want to keep agitating the bag until ice cream thickens, should take a while, so you may want to trade off with other people while doing this. ... View related article.
