RE: Adjusting the Tension on a Serger Sewing Machine
I have found that after hours of frustration with this problem, sometimes my needle is the wrong size/kind for the material/thread, or I need to just change the weight of my thread. Call your local Singer store and get this stuff right first before you spend anymore time on tension knobs. ... View related article.

RE: Fall Flower Arrangement Ideas
The first instructions are great. I had someone give me another tip one time on proportions: The width (at the base of the flowers) should be about 2 times the height from the top of the vase to the highest flower. Start with the center top flower. Then fill in the bottom border all the way around. Last fill in the rest of the arrangement. The pic that Lorelei put up shows that, but she probably got it right without having to really think about it. ... View related article.

RE: Give Each Kid Their Own Colored Towel
Oh, Thank you! Such a simple idea but it is the solution I've been looking for. ... View related article.

RE: Rotten Egg Smell in House
You might want to consider a few things:
1. Are feminine products being flushed down the toilets? Sometimes sewage systems will "burp".
2. Is your outside trash can near the heat/cooling unit or near the dryer vent?
3. Do you smell it more when it is hot or very wet outside? There may be an animal/rodent that is leaving feces in a hidden area inside the walls/eaves/attic. ... View related article.

RE: Substitute Teacher Business Cards
As a teacher, I can honestly tell you that I lose those cards and even forget the names of substitutes (even the ones I like!) Until.....one sub made sub folders for any teacher to pick up that wanted one. In it was a yearly schedule for our school, a bell schedule, etc. several easy worksheets where we could write down our class rules or specific instructions, and even a page for a "sub" phonebook that we could create with all our favorite subs on there. There are several of these type forms on the internet for free. I picked up a folder because I loved the organization and ease of using it for my future subs. Then, I discovered that she had put her name, phone numbers, and picture on the inside cover. I think that woman was subbing for someone in our system every day that year. ... View related article.

RE: Halloween Costumes for Groups
I thought of some more ideas:
26 letters of the alphabet. Along the parade route you can do different formations to spell out things to the crowd.
You could do something to play on the fact that there are only 2 girls: like the girls dress as football players (I'm sure you can borrow uniforms from your school) and all the boys have to dress as Hooters waitresses (a white man's tank with an iron on transfer saying "hooters" on the front that can be made on anyone's computer, short orange shorts of any kind, wigs, lipstick, and definitely the front of the shirt "stuffed"). You could do two Hugh Heffners and a bunch of Playboy bunnies, or two Frankensteins with a bunch of scary brides. ... View related article.

RE: Unusual Gift Wrapping Ideas
One year I wrapped all of one of my son's presents in bags from one fast-food restaurant, and the other son's presents in a different fast-food restaurant's bags. I had to get a little creative piecing them together for bigger gifts. Then I didn't put tags on them. All through December they tried to figure out who had which restaurant. They held the presents, guessed based on size, and rattled the packages. Plus it brought out a lot of laughs whenever we had guests over. On Christmas morning they had to just pick a gift and open it. From there they figured out which wrapping belonged to them. ... View related article.

RE: Halloween Costumes for Groups
How about a barnyard theme: a farmer, farmer's wife, all the different animals. Not scary but could turn out very funny. ... View related article.

RE: Quartz Vs. Granite Countertops
Neither! From personal experience I hate both of them. Granite has to be pampered. There are so many household items/chemicals that will ruin the finish. I have it in my bathrooms and in 3 years have had to have it refinished twice. The Quartz can't withstand bangs and hits. If you have children, pets, or even a slightly clumsy husband, then go with a manufactured finish like Corion. You can pick out something that is just as beautiful as granite and will still be in good shape in 20 years. ... View related article.
