| RE: Removing Wax From Hardwood Floors |
|
'First' magazine suggests that, since scraping can possibly damage the finish, you should "melt the wax with a hair dryer set on low, then wipe it up with a paper towel. Then apply 1 tsp vinegar to a damp sponge and wipe the area. The heat softens the wax so it can easily be mopped up, while the vinegar's acetic acid dissolves any remaining residue". - Weird that I just read this tip yesterday. It's from their January 9th issue. ... View related article. |

| RE: Late 1800's English Decor |

I don't know if there is one serving your area, but Yahoo has groups called "Freecycle". You can post requests for the items your looking for, and people post offers of things they just want to get rid of. Of course, everything is FREE. Might be worth a shot, esp if you're in an area where people might have what you want (you'd probably have to go get it). ... View related article. |

| RE: Burnt Oil In a Pan |
|
My first question was the same as the editors. If it's non-stick, you may actually be trying to remove burnt teflon. If it's actually oil/food, the dishwasher detergent could actually eat thru the teflon if left overnite. (hope it didn't) I'd like to know if the lemon works. If not, I wonder if using oil would work (I wouldn't suggest heating it though! :D). GOOD LUCK! ... View related article. |

| RE: Pam Residue on a Cookie Sheet |

SOS pad would definitely do it. Some metals will rust if you scratch them with metal (as used in SOS pads). If you're worried about scratching the pan, try one of the ScotchBrite sponges with the plastic "scrubber" side. Or try some baking soda with a cloth or sponge. ... View related article. |

| RE: Looking for Expel |
I do business with the folks at Orison (nice people). If they can't help you (because they're primarily commercial/industrial), Expel has a website too.

| RE: Title of a Horror Movie Where a Doll Becomes a Girl and a Girl Becomes a Doll |
The main character in the episode "After Hours" was an adult woman. I'm pretty sure the one we're looking for is "Living Doll". The doll's name was Talky Tina. -- Believe it or not, it also starred Telly Savalas!

That show has popped into my head too on occasion. Probably 'cause it gave me the CREEPS! I think it was a Twilight Zone episode (Fantasy Island also had a similar episode). btw - You didn't have to "date" yourself...they re-run black & white shows all the time :D ... View related article. |

| RE: Chiggers Love Me |

I was reading some posts on "Alternative Uses for Dryer Sheets" (I LOVE this website!)...there were several mentions of dryer sheets repelling mosquitos & ants...maybe they work for chiggers too! ANYTHING is worth a shot to prevent a chigger attack! AND, if they work, you'll come in from gardening smelling good, too! :D ... View related article. |

| RE: Making Your Own Flavored Yogurt |
|
Not only have I recently discovered how EASY it is to actually MAKE yogurt, [see "Making Homemade Yogurt" http://www.thriftyfun.com/tf837542.tip.html], I have also discovered frugal ways to flavor it. Over ripe bananas that nobody wants to eat & plain yogurt in a blender make a great smoothie. You don't have to add sugar because over-ripe bananas are much sweeter. Leftover fruit salad that's no longer appetizing to look at can be mixed with plain yogurt and a little sweetener for the "fruit on the bottom" type, or blended for a smoothie. I have also used canned or leftover fruit pie filling. If unsweetened yogurt is too tangy for you, a couple drops of vanilla extract helps to make it a little less tangy. ... View related article. |

| RE: Uses for an Old Crib |
|
This suggestion depends on whether or not you are willing to modify the crib. If you do a lot of crafts and/or gift wrapping, you could add a hinged "lid" to the top to use as a work-table while storing your craft/gift-wrap supplies inside. Since it's on wheels and is relatively small, you could roll your "workstation" from room to room. A barstool would probably be about the right height to work comfortably. ... View related article. |
