Profile For Whitebrook - Whitebrook, daughter of Sunny Brook
My husband and I are retired. He drove OTR and I drove a schoolbus. We've raised 4 children. The two oldest are 32, the youngest is 27.We have 7 grandkids, so you can imagine any way that we can save money without cutting corners is a blessing! We love to have the g-kids over! We've made a poor man's slip-n-slide, decorated the yard for Christmas and Halloween, had Easter egg hunts in the backyard, babysitted them so " Santa " could go shopping for gifts, and for Mom and Dad's night out once a month. The ones we keep the most are, of course, the ones that live here in the same town. One is the oldest g-son, 13, and his 3 yr old sister whom we call " the Energizer Bunny " 'cause she just keeps going, and going... well, you know the rest! Besides the 'critters' as we call the babies, we love to garden, keep up with the extended family, make toys and gifts for the kids, watch 'wrasslin, Discovery shows, Scifi and horror shows and movies, and love card and board games. My hubby cannot stand the lawn grass to be even a quarter of an inch too high and loves to tinker. Me, I love to cook and make things, exactly what things...anything! We love to take walks, although we don't go as fast as we used to, and we like to watch nature. Although last year I caught the squirrels stealing right out of the bag I was filling with pecans from our trees! I told my hubby that if I had had the BB gun, we would've had squirrel stew that night for supper! We still like to watch them be silly, though. We feed the birds, hummingbirds, a couple of feral cats, our own 2 owners ( a Pomeranian and a Siamese Manx tom), and now have a corn spinner for the doggone squirrels. We are trying to enjoy being with each other now the kids are out and not needing so much watching over now. Sometimes we will just put on the radio, move the furniture out of the way, and just slow dance. We are happy and although our health isn't as good as we might wish, we look out for each other. It's good to have someone that can say "I love you" in a crowded store and not be embarrassed. We still hold hands, and the home healthcare aid that comes out to help me once a week says she thinks it is 'so sweet' that we can still do those things. I just told her that if you are willing to talk about something and come to a compromise, never drag outsiders, or family, into any arguments, and not have so much pride that you can't say 'I'm sorry', or 'you're right', then you should be able to stay together just about as long as God lets you stay here on Earth. I hope He lets us stay around for a LONG time! lol!
I think that I would take him to see his veterinarian before trying anything. My Siam-Manx tom began licking and scratching himself until he had licked and scratched a lot of his fur off. The vet looked at him, took a blood and other samles, then told me that he was allergic to flea bites and droppings! I didn't even know he had fleas! We had just moved into our present home, and the previous owners had had a couple of outside dogs. It turned out that when we were walking our Pomeranian, he was getting infected with fleas, too! We had them treated, and began using a presciption product for fleas on both of them, then had the yard organically treated to get rid of the fleas, as well as inside our home. Sorry, but that's my 2 ce...uh, 30 or 40 cents worth! Good luck, sweetie... ... View related article.
My Siam-Manx also steals my husband's little brush he uses to get the dust off the TV screen. I have a larger one to dust the ceiling fans and knick-knacks and such, but it's too big to drag off! He also loves to play in paper grocery bags, with balled-up paper of any kind, and with those small plastic drink bottles that that drink Bug Juice (my g-kids love it!), comes in. I'll wash the bottle out, let it dry and take the label off using WD-40, then stick a couple of large colored beads in it and glue the top back on. I do that to keep my 3 yr old g-daughter, better known as the Energizer Bunny, from opening it and swallowing the beads! Cardboard boxes, they're like small kids at Christmas - after they open the present they'll play with the toy for about 5 minutes, then have fun playing with the boxes the toys came in the rest of the day! It's so much fun watching them, though isn't it? Oh, and old shoestrings! My Mom used to have a cat that stole socks and her hairbrush. She'd just laugh it off and go look under her sofa to clean out his stash. He never seemed to mind that she did it - guess he figured that she was making that much more room for his next raid! ... I don't know if what I remember is the same thing, but my Mama and I would take a large styrofoam ball, wrap old and broken tinsel around and around it, glueing the tinsel down here and there, and at the end. Then when we'd go to the big Christmas dinner at my Grandfather's, we kids would have one more toy to throw around and get stuck on his roof! lol I still make them once in a while, but I use them as porch Christmas decorations, or at Easter, I'll spray paint them pink, blue, or just about any color that's on sale, in stripes, then hang them on trees, the porch, bushes, and just about anything in the yard that isn't moving! But I only make them with my old tinsel that's been used sometimes up to five years or more. But you can find the cheap tinsel in 'dollar' stores, as well as 10" to 12" styrofoam balls or ornaments. I've seen the very large plastic ornaments in $ stores that could be used the same way. Now, some folks call the balls made with plastic drinking cups and tinsel, Tinsel balls. Is that what you're talking about? ... View related article.
