Profile For Borasic Lint - BORASIC LINT
I originate from London, England where rhyming-slang was invented.  For instance - Apples and Pears - stairs, Trouble and Strife - wife.  Borasic Lint is rhyming slang for the word Skint - as in no money, broke, poor.  I am classified as disabled and so have a limited income.  I am finding that frugal does not have to be miserable, and I try to turn the situation around and make it a challenge.  If I have learned something I am always eager to pass this on,  I am also keen to learn new tips and crafts.  I have found that being without lots of money can be humbling in a very good way.  It does tend to knock you off your high horse and bring you back down to reality.  And once at that stage you can take a look around and see the things that really do matter and are important.  And more often those things are free - like consideration to others, good manners, love and gratefulness.  Or a wonderful sky, a handful of seashells, or the frost on leaves in winter.  You look at what is and stop running after what everyone else has.

RE: Uses for old computers and equipment?
BE WARNED - In the uk we had a charity that recycled old computers - they were sent to the third world - mainly Nigeria - where computer experts got into the hard drives of the computers and stole all the previous owners details and it was a multi million pound financial scam!
Be careful!

RE: Craft: Clothing Enhancement
also if you have old underwear that is past its best but the lace is still good and bright - carefully cut this off the garment and it can make lovely trims on plain t-shirts - especially if you put a few scattered sequins and beads onto the lace in a matchin colour.

RE: Does Yardley of London Make Cosmetics
Hello - found Yardley :-

http://www.yardleylondon.co.uk/

It looks like on the website that the cosmetics are not available on the US version of the site. Use the above link and the website gives a US or UK/WORLDWIDE option.

The UK version only has the pressed powder as far as cosmetics go:-

RE: Making Your Own Greeting Cards
I save old Christmas and Birthday cards - and cut out the pictures, mottos, anthing that can be cut out neatly and then I glue them onto stiff card - to make a whole new design. I also save from toiletries and food gift sets any bows or trims and glue these on too. I use ordinary children's glue as it takes a good while to stick which is good if I need to rearrange the design. Its best to do all your cutting out first so you have a good selection when making up a new design. Also if you have Pinking Shears - the scissors with a zig-zag cut - you can cut up old cards and make loads of gift tags for next year.

RE: Advice For Dog That Runs Away
You know what you could try - make sure he has fresh water - BUT NO FOOD FOR 24 HOURS - MAKE HIM DEPENDENT UPON YOU - it sounds harsh but a Vet said it won't hurt them for a day or so - AND WHEN YOU DO FEED HIM DON'T LET HIM HAVE IT ALL IN ONE FEED - MAKE HIM WORK FOR IT - If you have a dry complete feed you can use it to train him and reward him one piece at a time - so he BECOMES DEPENDENT ON YOU AND NOT INDEPENDENT - I know with my little JRT spotty if I hold back his food he behaves - ones he has eaten he becomes disobedient again. Its worth a try with him.

RE: Does Yardley of London Make Cosmetics
When I left school at 16 (1980) - my first job was in THE YARDLEY BUILDING at Stratford, East London, England. It had a really big painting on the outside wall of a Lavender seller.

I did hear that Yardley had gone into liquidation a while back - whether another company still manufactures in their name I do not know. The only times I see Yardley for sale is in the discount shops - as in End of Line Clearance.
I will have a search for them and post whatever I find.

RE: Could My Dog Have Postpartum Depression?
My friend had a Yorkshire terrier - she never even had a litter of pups - but after each season - then add the gestation period for a liter - around the time when she would have given birth she would become really strange. Even though she was not in pup she would make her nest ready to give birth, then for about a fortnight she would growl, lay about, shiver, whine, she had a phantom birth each time. She was a lovely little dog but her personality changed totally each year or so, for about a fortnight - so yes I do think dogs can have hormonal problems and depressions. Also your dog might be snappy because instinct is kicking in and it is her job to protect her babies, lots of normally gentle bitches turn snappy when they have their new babies.

RE: Breads and Pasta in Compost
You can also compost the contents of your hoover bag - they say you should have wool carpets but in truth the bulk is dust and dirt and very little of the actual carpet anyway - so I empty the hoover bag into my bin. You can also compost paper - I read that black and white print is OK but the coloured inks contain toxins - DON'T COMPOST MAGAZINE/SHINEY PAPERS THOUGH. You can also chuck in the ashes from a wood fire - BUT NOT FROM A COAL FIRE. If you have left-over pasta and bread - why not get a few pet Bantam hens, they are good for even small gardens and will eat kitchen waste, and give you fresh eggs in return. And hens are brilliant when it comes to eating all the slugs and weed seedlings if you want to clear a bed.
