Profile For 2oma - 2oma

Oma is German for grandmother.  My family has long had nicknames for grandmothers.  For instance, I am Oma, my mother was Nana, her mother was Mema, her mother was MaMay, and HER mother was Munny.... sorry, 5 generations is as far back as I can learn about.

I'm a retired RN of 30 years.  I live in the home of my dreams that makes me smile every day.  I have 7 grandchildren, two cats and two remaining children, both of which are in their forties!!! what a shock!.  My eldest son ( and the light of my life!) returned safely from Iraq and I am so grateful to God he returned safe, sound and whole in body and mind.

I volenteer at my church and at a  local elementary school both as a gofer and reading mentor.  I'm learning spanish. I'm fat and with a foot problem.

I try to travel at least once a year and this year I'm visiting my niece in Korea for a couple of weeks in the fall.  Last year my pastor's family made me an honorary abuela ( grandmother) and I visited Mexico for 2 weeks as part of the family.  Had a fablous time and want to rent a house in Mexico for a month next year ( 2009).

Starting to go for TMI-- too much information!

RE: Painting Roof to Reflect Sun
There is a thick paint type material that is used on mobile home roofs. A dealer will be able to tell you where to get it.
If you are thinking of painting over a shingle or asbestos shingle roof, I would check with someone knowing about roofs-- might be a big no no.

Roof spinners are "cheap" and can be installed by a handyman. and really work to get rid of heat over your ceilings look into them, too. Good luck ... View related article.

RE: Deposit Change In Separate Savings Account
Great idea! One caution; make sure your savings institution does not charge you for inactivity. Too many are doing that these days.Another trick to make that amount grow; when writing checks in your record, round the check up. Then note the difference at the end of the month, roll that amount to your special savings. More power to you young lady! ... View related article.

RE: Ideas for a Corn Festival Float
I have tried and tried to upload a picture I took in Korea at a fall festival without success. The Koreans took a metal framework and made an archway of corn using the husks to attach the corn to the arch. You could then hang a banner across your archway - or something else indicating shelter or a home. Have fun.

RE: Spraying Frontline on Furniture
No matter what you choose to do, add to your method of control. Placing a cake pan with water and a few drops of dish detergent near the infestations. Place a small lamp by the cake pan. Turn on the light.
This is what happens. The fleas jump for the heat of the light and fall down into the water that has a film of soap. The fleas drown. It's too simple but it really works. It will take a lot of time to rid your home of fleas because the eggs continually hatch-- so use any method that is safe for animals and humans. Good luck ... View related article.
