RE: Financial Responsibility for Funeral Costs
Deeli is right. What a crying shame. And I am an expert at relatives who ought to be ashamed, but have no conscience.

I saw my mom last around the 10th of March, 04. She died on March 16th, and her sister didn't tell me. I had to have a friend call under the pretense of asking for a lost phone number for me to find out. She told me that my mom specifically asked her not to tell me when she died. I will never know if that was true or not.

She had been cremated, scattered, her craft supplies and jewelry "given to the local thrift shops" (again, I have no way of knowing who got what), and the obit in her local paper didn't mention me, my daughter or grandson. I had to contact the local paper and get it changed and reprinted.

My point is, funerals and deaths bring out the worst in some people. Once someone is gone, they have no control over what happens. To avoid this, and to help others after I am gone, I have become an organ and tissue donor.

No one gets my body, everyone remembers me the way I was when I was alive, no one has to pay for my cremation, and I get to help people see, walk, breath, and live.

I am so very sorry for your loss, but everyone is right. You can often consult an attorney for 30 minutes free and if not, do the research on line and know what her rights are. Do not let her, if you have any influence on her, pay for the funeral.

If she insists on paying for a portion reflecting what she would have spent, then let her. It might help her feel like she did her part, and that is more important than money.

RE: Electronic Ignition on Oven Not Working
Good idea, but if it's plugged in, make sure the outlet is working. You may have to pull out the stove and make sure the outlet works, if the plug in is down behind like so many are. If the outlet is working, call the manager or the manufacturer if you own the stove, and get it replaced or checked. Good Luck! ... View related article.

RE: Costume Jewelry Christmas Tree
You really don't need a pattern. If you have a nice shape for a tree, whether it is the kind that have the points of the limbs straight down or pointed it, simply get a piece of thin board. I used to cover mine with red felt, velvatine, or satine (fake satin).

Then you put your pattern on it, draw it, and place your jewelry on it. If you have sets, like earrings, it's fun to place them on the same points on each side of the tree, or if your pieces are all different, you can put the larger ones in the middle and the smaller ones on the tips of the trees.

Shiny ones work wonderfully, and the best glue is E-6000. Take off the earring bags, pin backs, or anything that keeps the pieces from being as flat as they can be.

Keep something magical for the star on top, or just make a glitter glue one by drawing the shape and filling it in. If you make one, send it to us! ... View related article.

RE: Recipes That Use Ramen Noodles
I use them for stir fry. They work great with veggies and your choice of meat. I cook them ahead and then add them once things are steaming/cooking i the skillet. They are also good for if you suddenly run out of spaghetti once the sauce is done! ... View related article.

RE: Puppy with Hydrocephalus
You are an angel on earth to try so hard, but there comes a time to let her go. I know, a lot of you will agree and a lot will disagree, but that is the reality. Of course, if you have money to burn, and I doubt you do if you are a member of this community, then by all means spend it. An ethical vet will tell you there is no hope, rather than taking more and more money.

I once found the most precious little kitten half starved in a field. My daughter had two, and when I brought this little gal home, I asked if she had room for one more...and of course she did.

She was very tiny and seemed to grow slowly, but she did grown. She seemed to be doing fine, then one night, about 9 months later, she began to howl like injured cats often do. It was a quick trip to the vet and she was gone before we could even get her into the office.

Sometimes, critters who are too small or malnourished and their hearts don't grow with them. That was the case. If this little angel is meant to be here only a short time, then better with someone who loved her and tried to keep her alive.

I truly hope she makes it. Take some photos of her for your mantle so you can always keep her in your heart. ... View related article.

RE: Dog Ate Bologna Wrapper
Since these posts take days, I hope you are now still the owner of a healthy pooch. When something like this comes up, please do not wait for us. We love helping, but often the situation calls for more serious and immediate advice.

We have had well-meaning folks write in and tell us their pet isn't eating. So unless the situation resolved itself within a day, by the time we all pretty much yelled "get to the vet" almost in unison, the harm had been done.

Call a vet, log onto purina.com and find out within an hour, not a week. Your pet will thank you and we all won't be biting our nails hoping your pet is still ok.

Well meaning member,

RE: Unusual Clock Designs Using Household Items
My father in law was a golf nut. I found a lamp base that was round and happened to be green felt. I drilled a hole in the center, made the 12, 3, 6, and 9 from fake golf balls cut in half, and the rest were different colored tees.

He and the clock are long gone, but I am sure you can do something similar. I could not find the hands made of clubs, but these days you would no doubt be able to make them, or find a doll house or miniature site that can help. Have fun!
