RE: Plastic Hamper
You could spray paint it terra cotta or forest green, to make it look like an outdoor planter pot, stuff straw around the openings, punch a few drainage holes in the bottom, and make an outdoor planter out of it. Plant a large showy flowering annual or perennial in it. Or, if it's the deep clothes hamper like I have, grow some potatoes in it -- start with a layer of dirt, compost, maybe shredded leaves, and plant your 'taters. As they grow add more dirt/compost on top. When they reach the top, let them finish growing and in the late Summer/early Fall you should have some fresh potatoes! Just don't forget to keep it watered.

You could also use it as a storage bin, if you wrapped whatever you are storing, such as clothes, in see-through plastic bags first (so you can identify what has been stored). The hamper would serve to stack the bags of clothes neatly.

Or turn it upside down, attach a small flat surface to the bottom to act as a tabletop (something recycled?), paint the whole thing one color, and you have a small garden pedestal or a small table to put next to your lawn chair. Maybe even twine some fake ivy in and out of the slots to complete that outdoorsy look.

The last thing I can think of is to attach it to the garage wall and use it as a storage bin -- it would be great as a place for the kids to throw their toys into at the end of the day.

Good luck, and keep thinking outside the box!

RE: Recycle old coffee cans
Coffee cans are the perfect containers for mailing cookies to friends and families. Decorate the can with fabric or wrapping paper, add some ribbon around it, then pack the cookies in! Box it up and mail it -- it holds the cookies well, so they don't get broken. ... View related article.

RE: Recycle old coffee cans
My personal favorite is to use coffee cans for perennial transplants in the spring. I divide and give away lots of plant divisions and these cans are often the perfect size to use. They also make good planters for outdoors, and 3 can be wired together to make an interesting, larger-sized planter. You can also paint the cans and decorate them with designs if you like.

Another use is to have an empty coffee can by the sink to put all your compostable waste into. Keep the lid on it until it is full. Then empty into your compost bin. Wash it out and keep using it.

At work, we keep an empty coffee can by the coffee pot. The used coffee grounds go into the tin, and a fellow who is an avid gardener takes the can home when it is full. Then another empty coffee can takes its place and gets filled up again. ... View related article.

Gifts for those who don't expect them...
You go, Nett! This is a wonderful idea! I send Christmas cookies to a Navy friend of my daughter (also in the Navy) who is far away from home. I don't really know her, but she sure likes the cookies. May I suggest to anyone to find a serviceman or servicewoman to pass a kindness on to? Just a thought... ... View related article.
