RE: Disposing of Kitchen Scraps Other Than Composting
I put my meat scraps in a covered plastic container, that will be easy for contents to be released, and keep it in the freezer. When we go to the trash dumping site, empty the container in a plastic shopping bag & put it in your trash to be dumped.

Metal coffee cans can be recycled in the freezer until they wear out for you. Or cut top & bottom out of can & recycle with your trash. You could also combine your scraps, since you don't have a place to compost veggies. ... View related article.

RE: Trying to find coffee cans?
Beside what the staff recommended, contact your neighbors, co-workers, relatives, your doctors office, etc. and let them know you would like them to save large coffee cans for you.

Make up a card with your name and phone number and what you would like them to save for you and leave it at the particular places you contact. Ask if there is a certain day that would be best for you to check back with them. Be sure to be prompt in picking up cans ... they are doing you a favor!

RE: Using CD Tins
The CD tins I have painted black and gold veined them (a spray paint that use to be abailable). Recently, I used one on a small gift box of candy and inside the CD tin, I made a laminated magnet that said, "The Perfect Diet" - Eat everything and lose weight ... just don't swallow!

The CD tin was on top of the candy and tied together with a big poofy bow on top. ... View related article.

RE: Reusing Computer Disks
Make a wind chime. Glue two CD's together, shiny sides out. Drill small holes for stringing the wind chimes, etc. Hang in a covered area of a porch where you get breezes. You can copy off some commercial wind chimes for ideas.

RE: Reusing Computer Disks
This is something that I have done with those old CD's we all seem to get in the mail. I painted the advertisement side black. On the computer I made a "birthday label" on card stock, which is better than a label, cut it out and glued it over the center hole area on the shinny side of the CD and hot glued twelve pieces of hard candy around the disk. To the back side, I used one of those FREE heavy duty magnets that some pharmacy's give out, to the back. This will hold to a 'fridge quite well. I used this as a gag gift. I sealed it in a bag and added a a computer generated note card with the saying: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY"
A YEARS SUPPLY OF CANDY, IF YOU ONLY EAT ONE A MONTH".

Just use your imagination.

"Syd - who's always thinking!

I also decorated my home office Xmas tree with CD's. I guess you could use the floppies as well. I prefer the CD's. ... View related article.

RE: Thrifty Tips for the Week of 4/16/2002
Write your name on your coupon pouch:

This is an excellent tip Kris. Many years back I had my name in my sizeable coupon pouch and the store called me so I was able to retrieve it.

Glasses cases should also have your name and phone number since this is an expensive item to replace. Not only that, the glasses are not much good to someone else.

Having your name on an umbrella can be helpful, but it is doubtful that the umbrella would make it back to you! ... View related article.

RE: Using It All - Margarine Tubs
SOS & Brillo Pads --- - Mari & Barry Wrote:

When you put the SOS or Brillo into the tub, add water to cover and baking soda first and they won't rust.

This is another simple way:

I keep mine in a laundry soap cap in the freezer never any rust and always handy. ... View related article.

RE: Kitchen Counter Tops
It really depends on the age of the counter top ... is it way past it's prime and you are still suffering in hopes of making it look new again? It won't happen.

It may be the time to "bite the bullet" and replace it and lift your spirits.

RE: Using It All - Canning Lid Centers
Another use is use them to cap mason jars with a Food Saver Vacuum Sealer. You can save food in the 'fridge for a much longer period of time. This does not replace the canning method. In addition to using jars you can seal in special bags that eliminate freezer burn.

WWW.YahooGroups.com has a Food Saver site.

It is a really neat gadget ... everyone should have one! ... View related article.
