| RE: Using It Up - Old Pantyhose and Nylons |
Cut into the panty just below the waistband, and remove the waistband without damaging it. This waistband is now the world's biggest rubber band! Use it to hold your garbage bag in place in a large garbage can, by fitting the giant rubber band down over the garbage bag, and under the lip at the edge of the can. This will keep the bag from falling down inside the can.

| RE: Simple Things We Can Do To Save Energy |
Don't let the water run while brushing teeth or shaving.
Match the stove burner and/or height of flame to the pan or pot -- no need to heat the air around it!
Always put lids on pots in which you are bringing water to a boil, it will come to a boil considerably faster if covered.
When you buy a large package of hamburger meat and divide it into meal-size packages to freeze, make your smaller packages as thin and flat as possible. They will freeze faster, and they will thaw faster, too! And if you still wind up trying to brown a package of hamburger that is still frozen, imagine how much faster it will cook with a thin, flat pound of meat, rather than a big fat chunk!

| RE: Prepare Yourself for a Winter Commute |
To your list, I would add: a clean, empty plastic bucket with a lid, or even an old empty coffee can with a lid. Into this bucket or can, put a roll of toilet paper. If you get stranded in your car, especially if you often drive with children, this "emergency potty" could be quite essential! --Becki in Indiana ... View related article. |

| RE: Uses for Plastic Table Cloths |
Carry an old plastic tablecloth in your car trunk for emergency use. If you have a flat tire, or need to crawl under the car, you can spread the tablecloth on the ground before you kneel or crawl, and protect your clothing.

You can always adapt "pin the tail on the donkey" to fit any theme. Maybe pin the bee on the hive? Or pin the spider on the web? If you were able to lay hands on some Halloween decorations, they usually include spiders & webs. Becki in Indiana ... View related article. |

How about a "twist" contest, or limbo? And wasn't one of the main characters a "beauty school dropout"? Maybe hair accessories as favors, or a contest to give each other the silliest hairstyle?

| RE: Conserve energy in the Kitchen: Electric Range Tips. |
Water will come to a boil much faster if there is a lid on the pot. After you add the pasta, bring the water back to a rolling boil, then cover tightly and turn it OFF. The retained heat will cook the pasta, I promise!

| RE: Brainstorm: Uses for liquid detergent bottles? |
DO you live in an area that gets snow and ice in the winter? A well-washed and thoroughly dried detergent bottle is a great way to shake salt onto your sidewalks! The handle makes it easy to grasp, even with gloved hands. Just use a funnel (I usually make a temporary one from the spout of a soda bottle) to fill the shaker as needed. Then pour with a shaking motion and the salt comes out the spout.

| RE: Recycle old coffee cans |

If you live where winter weather is bad, you probably know you should carry an energency kit in case you get stranded (munchies, water, etc). What if you can't even get out of the car to go to the bathroom? Add an empty 3-pound coffee can to your kit, with a roll of toilet paper inside. Let's hope you never have to use it, but just in case ...! ... View related article. |
