RE: Saving Money on Cheese
The filler in preshredded cheese is cellulos, a derivative of sawdust!! Do a google search and find out for yourself!!
Plus, cheese adds calories. When you eat a sandwich, use flavorful ingredients and you wont even miss not having cheese on it. I have done a family taste test, where I blindfolded my family and had them try a hamburger with and without cheese to see if they can specifically taste the cheese. Only if you used a sharp cheddar cheese can they even detect that it is on the burger! ... View related article.

RE: Miniature Candy Bar Labels
I made them this past june for my Neices wedding. I found alot of websites selling the kit to make them but I didnt want to have to spend so much money. So I just did a bit of playing around with a program I have on my computer that makes labels.
I made a few labels of different sizes that said what I wanted the wrappers to say, then printed them out on regular sheet of paper. Then I unwrapped one of the candies and cut off the silver ends and used the middle part of the label as my guide. I left the original wrappers on all the other bars and I only covered the part of the wrapper that told the name of the candy bar and left the silver ends showing. Using glue on one end I wrapped the little candy (like a cigar band) Viola! I had wrapped the little bar with a new wrapper that had a heart with the words Holly & Matt June 16, 2006 printed on it. They turned out great and only took about an hour of my time. ... View related article.

RE: Storing Bread
We eat whole wheat bread and we keep ours in a drawer in our kitchen island. We usually go through it fairly fast, so mold is not a problem.
But, I have kept it in the fridge before, but due to not having enough space in the fridge to keep it there we moved it to the island drawer.
I have never had a loaf stored in the fridge to dry out. As long as the bag is closed tightly and doesn't have a hole anywhere it should be kept in the fridge just fine. ... View related article.

RE: Leaving Crockpots on When You Aren't at Home
I have never heard a fire story from a crockpot either. But I am a cautious person, so I will make sure my sink is empty and nothing is on the counters nearby and place the crockpot in my clean/dry sink while I am gone. That may not make any difference, but I feel better about leaving the crockpot on for several hours when I know that if it should explode (?) while I am gone, there is a chance the damage will be minimal! ... RE: Uses for Old T-Shirts
My son has several t-shirts that, on cleaning day, just could not part with. I told him to come up with an idea so he could keep them. He decided he would take the best looking one and make a pillow out of it using the others as stuffing. It's a pretty heavy pillow but it's perfect for relaxing on the floor while watching a movie. Plus he learned the basics for sewing. Pretty good for an 11 year old. ... View related article.
