I am looking for a place to go on vacation with my husband that is romantic yet not expensive. Any ideas?

If you enjoy camping, that can be thrifty and romantic. It's all in what you make of it.

I noticed that you are from Ohio. How close to Michigan are you? Two summers ago my now-husband and I went up to Michigan's Upper Peninsula. There are a lot of state campgrounds that are inexpensive. We enjoy rustic camping which is much cheaper then hauling a camper. We did a "water fall tour" up near Lake Superior which are total free. And there are A LOT of waterfalls in the U.P. You have to do some hiking to see some of them but it was very nice. There are also campgrounds along Lake Superior. And if you want romance, a sunset over Lake Superior with a campfire going on the beach is the best!

How about Niagara Falls, either the Canadian or American side? That's certainly romantic.

I live less than an hour from the Falls, and you can find great off-season discounts to stay at some nice hotels on the Canadian side. Most offer a 2-night stay with some meals included. My husband and I stayed at the Marriott in December (2 years ago) for 2 nights for a VERY reasonable price, and had a wonderful gourmet dinner that was included in the package deal, along with 2 great buffet breakfasts.

Try calling the Ramada Inn, the Marriott Inn, the Howard Johnson Inn, and the Hampton Inn, or the Best Western Inn (all have 1-800 numbers listed in the phone book). Ask about their 2-night package deals -- they usually start at less than $100 US funds per couple (this Sunday's newspaper lists them at $69, $89, and up). The thing is -- these deals are not during peak tourist season (the prices would be higher), which is in the summer. But they are in effect now (spring), in the autumn, and in the winter.

Since you are in Ohio, the drive To New York is manageable. If you plan to go now, when the weather is pleasant, you could also pack a cooler in the car trunk and have a nice picnic lunch on the way up to the Falls at one of the New York State Parks on Rt. 5 -- Lake Erie State Park or Evangola State Park. I'm sure there are other parks you could stop at, too, for a romantic picnic luncheon. Call the 1-800-I-LOVE-NY phone number and they will send you lots of tourism brochures for free, including ones on State parks and the American side of Niagara Falls.

Since we live so close to the border, we go to Canada often, so we highly recommend it as a vacation destination. Niagara Falls is a beautiful place to visit, and what could be more romantic than the Honeymoon Capital of the World? We love it there. Good luck, and have fun, where ever you decide to go!

not sure on how romantic you want. spend the day together at the air force museum in Dayton (free) inside and a leisure shaded walk outside. Theres red lobster and plenty of strolling areas. anytime you are together making memories should be good. there was also a cracker barrel near the hotel. Drury inn, they have cocktail hour and snacks early evening plus free cooked breakfast. go to Dayton and have a good time.

I know Las Vegas may not sound romantic, but it is. You can stroll the Strip at night to see the Bellagio's water show. Take a gondola ride at the Venetian. The hotels and casinos are amazing. You can save money by eating at buffets.

Florida is also an inexpensive vacation spot because there are so many travel deals online.

Good Luck!
