Email Discussion Lists are a great, FREE way to stay in tune with what's happening in your family members lives. We created a discussion list for our family about two years ago and it has been fantastic. The lists are easy to set up and use. It has allowed us to keep contact with family members who are thousands of miles away or near by but still a long distance call.

Possible Uses For Your Family...

Announcements: These lists are great for announcing weddings, babies, graduations, birthdays, or anything else that would interest the entire family.

Asking Questions: You may find that you have a diverse pool of life experiences and expertise from the various family members on your list. Your list may become a great place to post questions about anything from car repairs to finance.

Genealogy: Discuss your family lineage.

Recipes: You can exchange your favorite recipes or ask questions about recipes that you love. "How did Mom make that fantastic Tuna Casserole?"

Not Just For Families: These lists may not work for every family but you may find there are other groups you would like to stay in contact with this way. Old friends, church groups, your high school debate team, etc. There are many possibilities and no additional expense if everyone already has a computer and email.

Why are Email Discussion Lists FREE?: The two most popular list services are Google Groups and Yahoo Groups. The reason that these lists are free is because they run short ads in the emails.

My daughter sat up a family reunion website. We were all supposed to upload pictures and music and make comments, etc. The site has been up for 4 months and no one in the family has posted a thing.

I guess the reason why is no one wants this reunion except my daughter. That side of the family was never close, needless to say. But the tip is a great suggestion for normal families. :-)
