Lilac Bushes?

How do you start one from another bush? Do you just cut a piece off - or what?
Thanks,
Annie-M

We have recently purchased a home in Rio Rancho, New Mexico and there are 10 Lilac Bushes on the property. My question is do I have to prune back the bushes in the fall or do I leave it until after the next blooming.

Thank you.

Janet W. Don't prune the lilacs in the fall! The only time you should prune lilacs is immediately after they have finished blooming in the spring. The advice I was given is to only remove or prune 1/3 or less of the bush, and no more than 1/3 of a particular limb or branch. Pruning at any other time removes next spring's blossoms.

My lilacs did not bloom this year. I cut them back too short and too late. Will they bloom again?
