Effects on Food Prices Due to Longshoreman Lockout

Right now because of the Longshoreman's lock out on the West Coast, ships are lining up off shore. Containers can't be unloaded and shipments going out are stuck either on the docks or back at their source. This is adding to the costs of imported fruits and vegetables and lowering the costs on local produce.

It's a good time to stock up because even if the Lock Out is settled quickly it has distrupted not only ocean shipping but shipping by truck and train, all over the country. Look for values on local goods and high prices on things brought in from elsewhere in your local area.

Stock up on those things you can get locally, especially perishables like fruits and vegetables (that you can can, dry or freeze) because your local farmers cannot ship them out. Stock up on things you can't do without because the prices will contintue to rise.
