The hospitals in our area give us a few freebies when we had our son. We got a box of wipes, a can of formula, a sample of diapers, and coupons for all of the above.

Here is a website for samples and free stuff. It has all kinds of things, not just for babies. Everything on the forum is free without having to accept any offers. It's also spam free. The list owner doesn't allow 3rd party offers. If you register, you will have access to the members forum which has the best stuff. When I started, I went back to the beginning of the forum because some of the offers are still good.

You can also search Yahoo groups for the freecycle group near you. Everything on the group is free. Its purpose is to keep the landfills free of usable things. Be sure to read the rules before you ask for anything.

Consider going to thrift stores and resale stores for beautiful baby things, slightly worn, for cheap, altho not free. Babies grow so fast they sometimes only wear things a couple of times before they outgrow them. Sometimes they never get to wear things at all and you can find new things with tags, even.

For my granddaughter, my daughter and I registered with all of the "baby" companies we could find online, like Babies R Us, Similac, Pampers, etc. By using both of our addresses, and even a work address we have been able to get a lot of great coupons.

Also while you are pregnant watch for sales on diapers, take the coupons, and go ahead and stock up ... most stores will exchange them if you need a different size, as babies grow so fast, sizes do change quickly.

This isn't free but I saved TONS with my child who now is two--

breastfeed
formula -- see if the used baby stores sell it -- it's new and sealed but from mothers of kids who no longer drink it. I bought formula for $6 when it would be on sale for $14 at the store -- watch the exp. dates

cloth diapers
disposables -- start buying now and whenever you see a sale, stock up on as many as you can
STORE BRAND -- I found they are better than luvs and huggies and pampers and you can return them if you don't like them

buy EVERYTHING USED and BUY IN ADVANCE
baby stores, thirft stores, garage sales....when I was pregnant I bought clothes for 25 cents (great condition too!) that were 1 and 2 T -- How could I not buy it!!

if possbile, buy clothes that are either gender can wear -- saves for the next one!

If it is good sale, ask them to nofity you before their next sale and that you will buy more clothes. I did this and the lady was moving and gave me over $600 of clothes name brand. She wouldn't take anything for them

make your own baby food -- it will cost you about 1/2 of the store and takes about an hour a month if you do it right

I freeze everything...extra fruit (cut up), meat, yogurt with baby cereal

library has books if you're not sure how to make the food

buying baby food -- start now, believe me they will eat it all

wipes -- buy a warmer (used) and use wash clothes
you touch them the same amount as wipes when changing, put them in an empty wipe container and then the washer twice. saves you tons. Of course have wipes for going places and leave some in the car.

I am totally amazed that my friends will not buy used and have to have the spendy diapers.....maybe they think this makes them a better parent but if they continue these habits, what are they teaching their kids.
