As I'm sure everyone has heard, the Pacific Northwest was hit by a severe windstorm on Thursday night (12/14/06). The homes and office of Thriftyfun lost electricity and some trees fell down in Susan's yard. Everyone is safe but there will be no newsletters or new posts until the power is back. It might be as long as 5 days, according to the power company. Feel free to post or answer questions or submit tips and recipes. We will get them out as soon as we possibly can.
Update: Hi, after 36 hours without power we are trying to get going again here at ThriftyFun. Luckily one of the staff was with power so she activated feedback but was unable to do much else. And luckily only fences, hedges and my neighbors birdbath were the casualties of the trees falling.

I hadn't heard about your storms. I am sorry to hear that you were affected by it, but happy to know that nobody was hurt. Hope everything returns to normal for you by Christmas so you can celebrate the holiday in style.
Wow Susan ... glad everyone is okay. The only thing I had heard about this storm had to do with the hikers on Mt. Hood. I never thought about the effect on the ground but it looks like you guys experienced a hurricane! Glad everyone is okay - those trees looked a bit close for comfort! Best of wishes and stay warm!

The tree cutters came today. I counted the rings of the fallen tree. It was 76 years old!
