Best Type of Cage For Guinea Pig?

I bought a female baby guinea pig, what is the best type of cage & how long will baby act shy? It is not a tiny baby. Never had one before. I would like to adopt a sister so they are companions. Your thoughts?

check out the site http://www.cavycages.com for a cheap and humane cage you can build and customize yourself out of those storage cubes from places like target or bed bath and beyond. 95% of store-bought cages are too small for a guinea pig to thrive in. Be sure to feed her fresh vegetables everyday too.

Some guinea pigs are always shy. But like all other animals, the more she is handled the more socialized she will be. I've had six guinea pigs in the past. Guinea pigs do like something to hide in. Small cardboard boxes work well since they can be replaced when they get icky. Guinea pigs also don't care where they make their toilet, so don't be too upset if their food is dirtied. Some guinea pigs, usually males, like to turn their food and water dishes upside down.

Give her LOTS of fruit and vegetables - you'll be amazed at what she likes, and since they are rodents their teeth never stop growing. They need something to chew on all of the time. If you have an apple tree available, give them small branches from it. They love it! That's true for all of you rabbit owners too! And remember their cage is where they will spend most of their time, so it shouldn't be a jail cell to them.
