Spend More Time With Your Family This Holiday Season: Host A Caroling Party
By Rondi Hillstrom Davis and Janell Sewall Oakes

Too often we forgo entertaining because of the mere thought of all of the preparation that is involved. And more is not better. Often we try to out do each other with lavish parties and expensive gifts. Stop and remember for a second what was important from your own childhood. Was it an outing? Baking cookies with your grandmother? Building a snowman with your dad? We need to connect. This doesn't require more time, just shifting the focus of the time we already have. Here, a casual party and a very simple activity were the catalyst that brought everyone together.

Give The Gift of Holiday Memories
By Silvana Clark

"Mom! I have to have this new battery-operated-computer-controlled-high-tech-super-duper-toy!" Children across the country loudly proclaim their desires for the newest (and most expensive) toys. With a strong economy and media-savvy children, it's easy to fall into the trap of frantically searching for all the toys your child requests. There are ways, however, to place an emphasis on creating positive holiday memories' memories that last long after the battery powered toys wind down to a standstill.

How to Celebrate Christmas when You Can't Afford to Celebrate Christmas

Friendship Balls

I purchased a Friendship ball for my best friends several years ago to avoid the increasing costs of Christmas gifts while our own families have increased in size! This metal ornament-like ball has cut-out hearts and other shapes and hinges shut. Inside, it can hold only ONE thing...bath salts, tart candles, sample coffee pkg, pair of earrings, scarf, even a little candy, but the legend behind the Friendship ball is that in Old English times friends, sisters, and mothers used to exchange the ball on special occasions, (or just when we have a couple of extra dollars) each time filled with something different - a lace handkerchief, chocolates, jewelry, etc.

Christmas Strategies: Gifting without Charging
By Darlene Arechederra

Before we know it, the shopping season will be upon us. And, just like Santa's little elves will be working feverishly, we've got to get busy saving up our cash for Christmas. The alternative could be to watch helplessly as our credit card balances increase.

Thrifty Christmas Gift

A thrifty Christmas gift I have given in years past is to buy bread dough shaped into dough balls. I arrange them on a baking sheet in the shape of a tree or a wreath and bake according to package directions. Then I drizzle powdered sugar frosting over the rolls and decorate with red and green cherries and small bows. These are well liked by everyone!
