Foods That Increase Metabolism?

Does anybody know of any good diets? I prefer ones that are fast but work with healthy and natural things? Also, does anybody know of foods that increase metabolism?

There are some studies done that suggest eating spicy food can increase metabolism. You can do searches on it and find lots of suggestions. Things like adding extra red pepper flakes to food, or hot sauce, things like that.

Yes, spicy foods have been shown to increase metabolism, but only short-term. Some cause your body to generate heat which increases the amount of calories your body is using at that time.

Green tea extract is also thought to increase your metabolism, but be careful with what products you buy, because mainstream companies are catching onto the trend and producing lots of sugar-loaded "green tea" products. Make sure you are buying the real thing, or just make it at home on your own!

As for diets, if you're looking for something that is easy to adopt as a lifestyle, just try to follow the food guide. I'm in Canada, and the Canadian food guide is a good guideline to follow. Even just following the daily amount of vegetables and fruits will make a large change in most people's diets! Try choosing different veggies when you go to the store, and stick with whole grain products. Maybe one day a week make a completely different meal than what you're used to?

There's usually no need to pay for expensive, complicated diets, when the resources are there for everyone to live healthy lives. Just make sure you're eating your veggies and fruits, and get your daily 30 minutes of exercise! Good luck!

A diet is something with a finite ending. The reason they don't work is because either people lose their enthusiasm and go right off the diet, or they reach their goal and go off the diet. I suggest making small changes, one at a time, and keeping up each change until it's second nature before adding another.

1. Drink at least six eight-ounce glasses of water per day. "Water" includes milk, broth, juice -- anything that's free of caffeine and alcohol.

2. Get at least three one-cup servings of vegetables per day. Choose green, leafy vegetables, or red/orange vegetables -- spinach, kale, lettuce, green beans; carrots, tomatoes. Mushrooms and onions count, too. Starchy vegetables can count for one vegetable serving per day (beans, peas, corn, potatoes, rice), but additional servings of these count as starches, not vegetables.

3. Get at least two servings of fruit per day.

4. Cut starches to two meals per day, usually breakfast and lunch, when you need more energy. Starches include beans, peas, corn, potatoes, rice, millet, quinoa, barley, whole-grain pastas, and (once per day only) whole-grain breads.

5. Cut out most fats and oils. However, you do need at least two teaspoons per day of Healthy Oils, which include olive, canola, sunflower, safflower, and flaxseed oils.

6. Increase your activity level. Do something at least once a day that gets your heart racing.

I lost 60 pounds by following these Good Health Guidelines, which I learned in Weight Watchers.

I'm doing well with my TOPS group, I like having a support group. I feel like nobody else in my world knows what is up with my head, how overeating can be such a puzzle, like my TOPS sistahs.

You might look into it, it's cheap and it suits me. Maybe look at tops.org? I'm not getting paid to mention it of course.

I would look into Prevention's Flat belly diet which is high in monounsaturated fats which cause our body to burn more fat. Things like olive oil and avacadoes are high in them along with some nuts. Also have your thyroid checked and if it is low or sluggish consider the the thyroid diet do some research, which encourages eating less of soy, and some other foods and more of foods that contain minerals that help your thyroid boost production. Just be sure that whatever you do is more of a lifestyle change than a diet.

I am trying crystalized ginger but this also has a sugar coating so I will be backing off on eating this.

Aliesha, Hello, my name is Anna. I am starting to try to lose weight, also. I have found that eating breakfast, like a slice of whole wheat toast w/ peanut butter, is one of the most important things that you can do. Also drinking a cup of say green tea or even a glass of water with a slice of lemon first thing in the morning helps fill you up too.

You also want to graze all day (say like eat six small meals, instead of 3 big ones). This keeps your metabolism going (it's like keeping a fire burning, you need to keep adding a little wood every once in a while).I eat breakfast, no matter what! Even if it's just a slice of leftover pizza as I'm heading out the door. I snack every so often on almonds(natural, not salted, salty foods will make you retain water). For lunch I eat a nice salad with lots of fresh veggies, lowfat dressing & some chicken breast cut up in it. You can get it at any drive thru if you don't have alot of time. I snack all day long with fresh veggies or nuts, then for dinner, I'll have either a lean steak or chicken breast, w/ maybe a cup of brown rice and some steamed vegetable, like broccoli.

Try not to eat anything after 6pm. Drink water or Crystal Light to help you feel full.If I really want a treat like chocolate or ice cream, I don't forbid myself from having it, but I will limit it to just two bites of whatever. Believe me , it takes some discipline but if you love yourself, you'll realize that you're worth it to be healthy. Also, you need to move! I started out just walking for 15 min. everyday(you can find 15 min).believe me too when I say that exercising really makes you feel good about yourself when you're done.

I now walk at a brisk pace for an hour everyday. I usually do it first thing in the morning because then I feel great the rest of the day. Just get out there as much as you can, you're worth it.

Some weight lifting helps burn calories even more. Get some little dumbbells, they're cheap at Walmart. Start out w/ 2lb. weights & work your way up to say 5lb. no need to go higher w/ the weight just do more repetitions til you're worn out.Squats are good for your legs and bootie, too. Also push-ups if you don't have weights. I just bought Shaun T's Hip- Hop Abs, and I love it. The music is great to dance to that it doesn't even feel like you're exercising 'cus it's so much fun, and it was only like $40.00.

Whatever you do,just stay motivated (read things that will help, reward yourself once a week, and stay around people that are positive). Good luck, and just keep remembering that you are worth it & owe it to yourself, your loved ones, and your Creator, to be the best you that you can be. I leave myself little post-its everywhere to remind myself that I am worth it, that I am FABULOUS, and that I can do anything that I put my mind to do.Good Luck again and remember to stay positive. You are so worth it girl!

As these letters say, spicy foods. The only problem I have with this, is I hate spicy foods & anything with peppers. I take herb capsules. One of them is cayenne pepper. Capsules make it easy, cause you can take hem with any other food, which is a good idea. Because they can be tough on your stomach.

There is even green tea caps. Look for the ones that are standardized of a certain amounts of the important stuff in green tea. Just read the labels in the adds. Most vitamin companies give you that info, if they don't, go somewhere else. You can try earth clinic.com, they have good info.

If you are not digesting your food well, you may need extra acid, betaine is good. Candida is often a culprit. Read up about that. I don't know your age, but the older we get, the worse this gets. Buffer your system between meals. It makes a big difference; baking soda, calcium & magnesium carbonate are good. When we become acidic, our cells react badly. Water can be held onto & cause lots of swelling, that ends up as pain, hurts our kidneys, heart, brain & misc others. Really check out: www.earthclinic.com/index.html Hope this helps.

After a lifetime of low-fat but high carb dieting and still gaining weight, I have decided to try the opposite as I have been reading lately about studies that show the benefit of low-carb diets. These two web sites have been very helpful to me. Until I began looking at the number of carbs in a single slice of bread or 7 crackers, or even yogurt, I had no idea what I was doing wrong. For the first time I am eating without being hungry and still losing weight. Best of luck to you!

I am not trying to lose weight, but I do have low blood sugar and a thyroid, so I am also concerned about my metabolism. I take a lot of B Complex every day. B Complex helps your body to more easily convert the food you eat to energy.

RE: Foods That Increase Metabolism

Learn to read nutrition labels on the foods boughten. Then learn to tell portions when cooking from scratch.
Many things we buy as a single serving just for US, can be 2-3 servings in that SINGLE unit. Make sure you know how much a portion is.
I am aware of the amount of carbs in foods I eat and try to make most of them complex carbs. Find your healthy carb amount you need to have in your daily intake. Know what fats and oils you can eliminate. Change brands of products you eat to make it a healhier choice you buy. If you MUST have bread, know portion as well as buying the healthiest bread product.
Set yourself up for those failures that will happen by having the CHEATING food on hand in a cupboard handy. Make that cheating food some almonds, bag of carrots, favorite tea flavors. If you find you crave a soft drink, buy 1 bottle to have, not the whole 12 pack. drink only 1 portion or as little as you can to satify your crave. If it is inconvient to cheat, that makes it better.

I have the weight issue compounded by health and medication issues. Because of new meds--I am about 50 # more than I wish to be. I am active, exercise, long distance lap swim and I am NOT a lover of foods. Not eating is fine by me, except I am a diabetic so food must be an important part of my day. I am content with just having my breakfast--bowl of oatmeal cooked each day. Snack can be the same thing. My cholesterols, etc are all in fine levels. Just wish the medication reaction weight could go its way.
My blood sugar stays fine with a small meal every 5 hours. The dietician said I must eat regularly like this.
I do vitamins and minerals, a healthy lifestyle of good habits, and still having the problem. Oh, the thyroid started being an issue almost 20 years ago, but that is in control.
I think the sands of time have shifted but I am not ready to accept permanancy of them. SOME DAY I will be where I was 20 years ago!
