Triple means three, so there will be three stents. They look similar to a woven chines finger puzzle. The puzzles are a braided basket weave tube that you put your fingers in and have a hard time pulling out.
The stent will stretch in the same way and when they insert it into the vessel it repairs the weak vessel at that spot. There will be an extra collection of blood whirling around each side of the stent until the vessel heals around it (it's made of stainless steel). They will give the person who has the stents a strong blood thinner (Plavex) until the healing happens (about 6 months). My hubby had 3 put in 6 years ago and is still going strong. Where is the aneurysm? If there is an abdominal aortic aneurysm you may be referring to the stent/graft which is placed in the aorta and right and left femoral arteries (it looks like an upside down Y). You can look on the Medtronic web site under abdominal aortic aneurysm for a description of this device.
How weird (for lack of a better word) to read this post as my husband just had surgery to place the stent/graft on 8/4/09 for an abdominal and a femoral artery aneurysm.
Your doctor should be able to answer your questions about the stent better than a web site or anyone else. Part of his responsibility it to make sure you understand all the risks as well as the benefits of any procedure.
