Wood Shelf with Copper Trim

Using a 50% off one item coupon, I purchased a pine shelf for less than $10.

I hand rubbed in two coats of IKEA stain, allowing each to dry thoroughly.

I applied three coats of water-based polyurethane for sealant letting each coat to dry four hours.

Using copper flashing, I measured and cut the trim for my shelf. I hammered the copper trim with copper nails (this part took some time)

I felt my shelf still needed just a little "something" on the sides. Using Mod Podge, I glued some metallic leaves on and tem brushed a light layer of Mod Podge on top of the leaves.

All in all, I spent less than $15 on this little piece of furniture that I simply treasure.

What a great idea, I love the copper trim. I have 2 older wood TV cabinets without TV's which look pretty much like your cabinet , I think I will try that on them. :-)

PICO:

The copper flashing I use is from a roll.

I don't know the dimensions of the shelves offhand. If you want the measurements, I can get them for you.

This is the second project I did using this idea. We needed something to house our small stereo, and I found what I was looking for at IKEA.

A little stain, some nail pounding, and voila: exactly what I wanted.

In keeping with the copper theme, I decided to use pennies on this piece. =D
