Painting a Church Room to Create a Children's Room?

I am the director of the children and preschool departments. I have been given a room specifically for children's church. I get to pick the colors it is to be painted. My thoughts have been a blue with blocks of color in yellow and green. I want a few notches above a pastel but not jewel tones. Any other ideas or such. Any comments on my color selections?

The blue would be a little lighter than the sky on a cool clear day. I really envision this room being used for more than one program and I don't want murals on the walls themselves as I can paint murals on old sheets and canvas for different programs and "mood" builders or backdrops.

Try going to glidden.com, they have colour charts and even a simulator which would show what they look like in a room.

Have fun!

A lot is known about how colors impact our emotions. Blues are calming, reds and oranges, hot colors are energizing. Pink is also a calming color. Green is serene and almost a neutral if you choose the right shade.

Check out info on colors before you choose. It will make a difference in the atmosphere of the room and the behavior and demeanor of the kids in it. P.S. I like willow or sage green, and lots of live plants.

Hi there,
Why not a different color for each wall, perhaps yellow, to show sunshine, flowers, butterflies, smiley faces, and etc. A blue wall, for the sky, kites, hot air balloons, birds and etc. A greenish wall to show trees, plants, growth such as bird nest, fruits and vegetables. A white wall would be great to make a bulletin board out of it, showing everyones art abilities, poems, favorite this and thats on. Perhaps upcoming events, pictures. The white wall would be neat for creating a Nativity scene at Christmas time: cut out the animals, hay stack, stable, Mary and Joseph, shepherds and etc. Use double edge tape to display. Another holiday comes along, you can use the white wall again for decorating. Hope I was able to help some.

There's a wallpaper product that is great for kids to HELP HANG...it's called PaperIllusion by Village and they just came out with five NEW colors...geared specifically towards kids (bright and colorful). You can see the new colors here & get samples if you're interested (a small sample pack of the five colors is only $3.99).

I don't know the age group you're talking about but my nephews (aged 6 & 8) and 10 year old son have helped hang it and they love it! It's safe for kids and SO EASY. You can create a great memory if you are able to make an event of it.

The paper is torn into various shapes, dipped in water and applied directly to a primed surface, overlapping each peice. Unlike regular wallpaper, this paper is made to stick to itself. Also, you don't need to "book" the paper (wait for the glue to activate)...you just wet it and put it on. I personally love this stuff!

You can create a stained glass effect using a combination of colors. Make a giant cross with one color (in Bubble Gum), create rays of sunshine coming out around the cross in another color (Sunset) and make the background blue (Sky Blue).

This application is VERY forgiving...it's practically impossible to mess up. Plus, if the walls get "damaged" in the future, you can easily patch it up with any leftover peices of the product.

Also, this product is really easy to remove should you decide to make a change. Being wallpaper it is more durable than paint...and you can wipe it clean when marks appear (as they always will), but since it is prepasted, it is REALLY easy to remove...just wet it real good and peel it off.

If you decide to go this way, email me...I'd love to hear how it turned out! ~Carrie
