Taking Vitamins to Get Rid of Dandruff?

I have used vinegar but my dandruff is still there. I also have heavy hair loss. One of my friends suggested that I take vitamin and calcium capsules. Will that help me stop the hair loss. Are there any other ways to get the rid of dandruff? Please help.

Just vinegar? Have you tried any of the dandruff shampoos in the drugstore? You may not have dandruff, you might have something else like seborrheic dermatitis. If you've been treating this yourself without improvement, it's time to see a doctor. A dermatologist would be the one to see.

You probably have seborrheic dermatitis. a common scalp infection due to fungus. the dandruff is large, sticky, greasy, and difficult to control. Hair loss eventually accompanies the infestation because the organism damages the root of the hair. Buy Nizoral shampoo to kill the fungus and use as directed. Sometimes you have to get a prescription strength one from a doctor, but start here.Completely rinse hair after use.

After Nizoral, wash with two different types of dandruff shampoo because there are two ingredients you need, you will need to experiment with different ones because not everyone responds to the same ones. Look up this term online to help you find shampoos. The treatment is drying to the hair so you will need a good conditioner too. There is no cure so you will have to fight this all your life. Wash hats, scarves, and anything that touches the hair on a regular basis.

The fungus thrives on oil from the hair so it is essential to keep your hair clean and use this treatment 2-3 times per week. Keep using the vinegar rinse because it does have some effect, Also avoid sugar and all sweets and soda because fungus loves sugar in the blood. Eat fresh fruit, vegetables. whole grains and nuts to get your vitamins-zinc, magnesium, and others. Eat flaxseeds, nuts, sunflower seeds. Eat nuts but only 6-8 of walnuts, almonds due to their high calories, A small handful of pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and flaxseeds will keep your skin and hair healthy.

Calcium will do nothing for dandruff. You will see improvement after the first wash and get better each time. my daughter has the same problem and the treatment works.

In summer you will see a flare, but do not stop, hope my suggestions work.

Are you sure it is plain dandruff? I had the first case of what I thought was a horrible case of dandruff, and after several months I went to a dermatologist and was diagnosed with psoriasis. He prescribed a special shampoo, and a lotion to put on the hair twice a day. In a month the problem was completely gone. He told me at the first sign of recurrance to start the treatments again. Usually I only have to do it twice to clear it up now. I also had some thinning of my hair, and still do because of some prescription meds that I have to take on a daily basis. However, thinning hair can also occur when you get older like me.

Dandruff is candida & it comes from the inside. Treat the candida over-growth & things will get better. Hair loss can be caused by many things, autoimmune issues as well. Candida also gets out of control with autoimmune problems.

I had hair loss that almost made me bald at least 6x in 10 years. It turned out I have SLE, lupus. Check all of your symptoms on the net, put one after the other in the search engine & see what comes up, then check all of the symptoms for each condition that comes up.

Also, how old are you? During & after menopause, the hormonal shifts can play havoc with every part of your body.

I was watching the tv show, The Doctors, just today. The dermatologist on there was addressing dandruff. He said to rub epsom salts onto your scalp, and it would produce a derm-abrasion technique. After rubbing the salts for a couple of minutes, shampoo as usual. You might get even more information if you access their website.

I agree with OliveOyl, in that you should first start with the over the counter dandruff shampoos. Head and Shoulders has always worked for me on the rare occasions when I did have dandruff. There are also several other kinds. Selsen is one. As some other poster said, there are two different active ingredients in shampoos, and one may work for you when the other does not. If these do not clear up the dandruff, than it is time see a doctor. No one needs to have dandruff and the accompanying itch in this day.

I have no suggestions as to the hair loss. Hair loss can be the symptom of other things, so you should consult your doctor about that too, if it is severe.

I agree with everything everyone else has said, but wanted to add one more. A friend of mine had used Vicks cream (not the salve, the white cream in a tube) on her scalp on psoriasis with excellent and almost immediate results, so I used the same on my dandruff and left it on overnight, then washed it away. It works for several days, no flaking or itch, however the scent is strong during the night it's on. Remembering that I'd long suspected that my occasional dandruff is likely caused by fungal growth of some sort, I decided to try a generic 'Lamisil' type product that's used for athletes foot. It worked exactly the same, but with no scent, and it did not make my hair quite as oily.

I'm not saying it would work for everyone, and if your dandruff is caused by a fungal problem then only one night of treatment won't cure it, just gives fast relief....might take a couple weeks of nightly treatment to rid yourself of it completely, which is a bother to do, and even then you'd have to use it occasionally to keep clear. I'd go back to the Nizoral dandruff shampoo probably, much easier, but the reason I'd stopped using it is that it affects the temporary hair-color I use (fades it out), and this does not seem to.

Have your thyroid checked. Thyroid problems can cause hair loss.

I had the same problem, dandruff and hair lose, psoriasis for ten years. I have tried all the shampoos and prescription treatments. The thing that helped me was to stop using shampoo. It has sodium laural sulfate. I tried a bar of olive oil soap and have never used shampoo again. I have very little problem with psoriasis or dandruff anymore. As for the hair loss, I have started using a protein drink and it has helped. My hair is getting thicker and healthier.

Out of whack thryoid is the first order of business. If this is an issue not going away, check with your doctor. You could have many issues with the skin. Dandruff is slough off of dead cells. Your body does this all the time. Just that from the head to the shoulders/clothing is more apparent.

Your skin/scalp may need a moisturizing medication. My son dealt with this but he went radical about it. After getting married, he let his wife buzz his hair. (The shoulder length curly locks he kept clean, but scratchy were now gone!). He has used Tgel products for many years, now uses just generic dandruff. If you are a hat/cap wearer, your hair needs to "breath and get air". You know, like the lousy pair of shoes you never give time to air out, hair/scalp is the same way. Wash your brushes/combs at least weekly (shampoo in sink of hot water, toss them in, swish, rinse). Never share your hairbrush, gee like doing a 2 for 1 toothbrush. Do not use hair products.

There are oil treatments to use, plain old full of fat mayonnaise slapped on with a shower cap and left for a couple hours is good too. Olive Oil, vitamin E, Omega fish oils good. For the dogs the vet says feed them the Omega fish oils, Es, etc. Shine coat.
Good luck.

This is through experience, lather your scalp with castor oil during the day and wash if you want before going to bed and repeat this process, it may take you a week or so and trust me, it works like magic.
