Vacationing Close to HomeWith gas prices so high, consider taking a vacation somewhere close to home. You not only spend less money on gas, but you will also spend less time on the road and more time at your destination.

Shep and Adria (Border Collies)My Border Collies' names are Shep (6 years old) and Adria (9 months). They are both full blooded and rescued from the Great Lakes Border Collie Rescue. I adopted Shep as a 3 year old (could NOT have asked for a better dog!) - and I recently adopted Adria as a two month old puppy. Shep loves to help me around the barn, to accompany me while horseback riding, and to play! (Frisbee is his favorite!) Adria loves to rough house, to play with any toys possible, explore, dig holes, and cuddle.

Watch for Cheap or Free Exercise EquipmentLooking for cheap or free exercise equipment? Visit garage sales. After a weekend or two of going to garage sales in your area you probably could outfit your own gym for as much as it cost to buy one treadmill at a sporting goods store.

Broom Foot CleanerIf you have an old bristle broom that you are about to retire, put it to good use as a boot and shoe cleaner by your front or back door. Cut the handle about halfway and bury the remaining handle in the ground. Leave the bristles pointing up in the air for people to wipe their feet on.

Princess MaiLing Birman Cat

Princess MaiLing (Birman Cat)This is MaiLing my georgous Birman cat. She is 7 years old and totally rules this household. MaiLing was a gift to me from a dear friend. We had seen the breed at a cat show. MaiLing likes to sleep for fun (lol.) She very much wanted her picture submitted to help the Red Cross donation fund. She says "meow" to all.

Start a Book ExchangeMost people know that libraries are a great way to save money on books. Another way to save money is a book exchange with friends and family. An easy way to do this is to set up an email list with everyone that wants to participate and post the books you have available to share to the list.

Fix Leaky ToiletsA leaky toilet can waste 50 gallons or more per day. Sometimes leaks can be unnoticeable. To test to see your toilet is leaking, put drops of food coloring into the toilet tank. Wait 15 minutes and look in the bowl. If color has made it's way to the tank you have a leak. Try replacing the flush valve in the tank to correct the problem.
