Blowing Out Candles on the Cake

When having a birthday party, please please make a separate cake for the birthday person. Imagine if the person has a cold or something worse and he blows on the cake.

Personally I don't eat it. I don't eat box cakes either so my friends can keep guessing about why I didn't eat the cake. But for me I don't want to eat someone's spit and germs.

I agree with Bubbasmom that you have probably eaten far worse in your lifetime.

Gee whiz. And to think all these years I was risking my life eating the birthday cake....

I can see having this hang up if the Birthday person was slobbering sick, coughing, hacking, etc, but to not eat a cake because of a germ phobia? I guess you could just tell them you are on a diet, but I think you are being a little phobic.

Plus, your not really saving money if you bake two cakes. Why don't you just leave the candles off alltogether, or have a person blow out a pillar candle or taper lit for the event?

Good point, although a bit paranoid. We grew up eating birthday cakes that fellow kids had probably spit on, and we're all fine. I never really thought about it. Maybe tell folks your dieting or something. It would be less insulting than not eating the cake because of germs.

I agree you should be HONEST and let people know that you are not comfortable with germs. Are box cakes out because your friends made them? Well guess what I worked in a Bakery and the nicest women worked there> However I was shocked when they would sneeze on a tray going into the ovens without trying to avoid it.

I told them it was unsanitary and they said "so it will bake out' ewwwww........I prefer boxed cakes myself but enjoy!!!

Hadn't thought of the germ factor. But with little kids, it was the "I want my own candle" issue. We make cupcakes with candles on each one for everyone to blow out.

I was told we eat 20 spiders a year while we are asleep, but I'm not going to quit sleeping.

If you think "boxed cakes" are bad...imagine homemade..with little kids! I can't tell you how many times I have found HAIR in my own! (My hair is falling out, and I've cut it as short as I can!) I am ready for hairnets!

Also, little kids "taste testing" behind your back.....but homemade is always safer than restaurants ;)
