Wipe the outside throughly with a 1/3 vinegar and 2/3 water solution. Run a 1/2 cup of vinegar in a normal size pot of water through the maker's cycle, then run a cycle of plain water to rinse the innards. If pot is very dirty, repeat.

Once you pour the vinegar into the water reservoir (I use at least half a carafe full) , turn off the coffee maker for half an hour, to let it soak inside the machine. Finish running the cycle, then use plain water twice through the machine, or until vinegar smell and taste is gone.
