Removing a Rusty Nut or Bolt

If you have a rusty nut and bolt, you can remove them by spraying penetrating oil liberally on the nut and bolt. Let the oil set for a while and then try to remove the nut. Penetrating oil can be purchased at your local hardware store. When trying to remove the nut, use a wrench with a long handle to provide you with good leverage. Push or pull the wrench with short and sharp jerks instead of extended pressure. The short jerks will help loosen the rust.

I have heard also that Coca Cola works well at loosening rusty nuts and bolts. I think one covers them with aluminium foil then pours in the cola, tie it up and leave. Don't leave too long though, Cola has phosphoric acid in it - so keep an eye on it.
Good luck! (And to think people drink this stuff too!) :o

Electrical conduit, cut to a reasonable length, can make a cheap "extender" for your socket wrench. Available in any hardware, the extra leverage can sometimes turn the trick, or the nut in this case.
