Choosing the Best Puppy Food?

I have 4 month old Pomeranian dog. It is not taking food properly. What can I do ? I tried to give her Pedigree, but that also she didn't like. What is the reason?

Also, how do I get good body and good hair growth for my puppy? I am awaiting for your reply. Thanks.

I also have a Pomeranian (mixed with cocker spaniel) and when I first go him when he was 3 months old, me and my parents went to petsmart and searched through the puppy food ile*. First, you look for the healthiest puppy food. What I have learned is that my dog like occasional dry food but he absolutely love wet food in the cans, but for dry food. You look at nutrients and then look at the ingredients. if it looks tasty to you. Your puppy will probably like it, and the wet food I get is different kinds. Experiment by getting individual brands with different flavors, and when you notice that he likes one, buy a variety pack of that brand.

And with the shampoo, get a shampoo that prevents fleas and ticks so he/she wont get them. And get a scent that you will enjoy. But not a scent that is too strong. I've learned from experience that dogs don't like it. Try to wash her/him at least once a week. I have to wash my dog a lot since he is a white dog.

Hope I helped- brittany <3

NO CORN. Causes allergies and sickness. Corn is for birds. No wheat or soy. Same thing. No Purina--no pedigree canned food. Look up what is in Pedigree(euthanized pets, including the poison which does not cook off) purina is always on the recall list. Go to holistic vet. No vaccines(see ingredients) (poisons) on vaclib.org. Raw diet is best. Don't be afraid of vegetables. Half cook some brocolli and see how she gobbles that up. Carrots, green beans, kale is excellent half cooked, See holistic vet, homeopath and feed better than what is at the grocery store. U will spend zip zero nadda if u keep your dogs immune system up instead of destroying it with poison food-poison vaccines. Borax your house and u will have no fleas. Again that is a natural product, not poison.

I rescue Shih Tzus (9 at present count!) and always put them on Bil-Jac dog food (not knowing what they had been fed). They have all thrived on it. Some eat the kibble, while others I give the frozen (like the girl who only has her 4 eye teeth). It is more expensive, BUT is so very worth it!

Ask what the dog had been fed before you bought your dog, You don't want to feed your dog some different brand of food all of the sudden.
If you want to change the brand continue using the same brand but every day add more and more of the new brand. If your dog doesn't respond to that treatment you probably either changed the brand too fast or your dog had some type of problem like an allergy with the new brand.

Purina Puppy Chow. I raise Bernese Mountain dogs and only use that. Good luck with your new family member. (11/13/2009)

Check with a holistic vet. Sometimes just a phone call away. Raw diet is best. For convenience, check with good groomer who carries natural foods. Spend it on the food and you won't have to spend much on the vet. Consider a holistic vet, please. Keep immune system strong for good bones, coat, teeth, and stomach. Do not destroy immune system with vaccines. Check documented ingredients on vaclib.org, Don't poison needle them. (11/16/2009)

My vet told us to get Hill's Science Diet food. It comes in different configurations. Sold at the vet's and Petco. Probably Petsmart, too. Buy the Hill's Science Diet, keep the list of nutritional analysis and components, and every time you go dog food shopping, compare what you are contemplating buying against what Hill's offers.

Note: If the pet food makes your dog poop a lot and there is a lot of poop, know that this is not being digested. High quality dog foods will cause smaller waste products because there is less filler. Remember (if you don't know much about nutrition) high protein is better than a lot of carbohydrates.

A few years ago, when many dog food products were recalled, Hill's was not one of them. Our neighbor's dog had become ill, and asked if we were spraying toxic insecticides on the lawn thus causing the dog's problems. Well, we weren't spraying at all and it turned out that their dog food was contaminated and recalled and that's why their dog was so ill. A very real problem. (11/16/2009)

Please do not use Iams, there have been so many dogs that have died from this food. (11/16/2009)
