Scooby is our 6 year old Min-Pin. We adopted him from a local rescue shelter just before Christmas, 2007. He likes to order us around, LOL. He is very vocal when it's time to eat (we don't need a clock, Scooby has an internal one); time to go to bed (he doesn't like going to bed alone so he lets us know when he wants us in the bed); and he scolds the other dogs when they are engaged in horseplay.
After taking him for a walk one warm day, we came back in the house and he put his paws in the water bowl and splashed around. We then decided to get him a little pool. He makes a beeline into it after a walk and he rolls around and seems to be in heaven.

Scooby sounds a lot like our Boxer granddoggie Sadie Bell who was 7 years old last Nov. 25. She orders our daughter and her husband around about the same way as you say Scooby does you folks.
Sadie also takes wonderful good care of them, staying right by their side if either is sick or hurt. She allows no other animal in "her" yard and really doesn't want the big hawks flying overhead either. She might not be close enough to reach them, but they can surely hear her telling them off.
I'm so glad you were able to "understand" that your Scooby wanted a nice pool to cool off in and enjoy. Sadie Belle has one too, and although she's larger than Scooby, she looks about the same when she's in her pool. You know she loves it.
In the picture here, she is helping our daughter clean up her toys out of the yard. She takes an old laundry basket out, and will gather up her own toys and put them in the basket. She knows all her toys by name too.
Aren't they wonderful and so smart. We always look forward to going for a visit knowing that Sadie Belle will be waiting at the front gate for her old Grandma and Grandpa, and she's obviously very happy to see us. She wags her entire body. :-)
