We are about to drive from South Texas to San Diego CA with 3 young girls. We will be on I-10, I-8, CA-125, and CA-94 most of the trip. Are there any free attractions we can stop at to let them move around a little? Are there any nice rest areas on this trip?

Being curious if the www had any information on rest areas >I googled rest area I-10 and got this web site, which list each rest area all along that interstate in each state. It tells alot of info on what the rest area have at each stop and if you choose one and click on the section eastbound or west it will then give you a list of restaraunts /lodging/gas/etc to choose from. I learned something new today> I would never of thought the interstate rest areas would be listed. maybe it will help some until other thriftyfum members can give you better ideas. have a fun & safe trip.
We often traveled/camped with our kids when they were young. Many small towns along freeways, etc., often have parks, some with picnic tables, etc. These are great for kids running off stored energy and are also free! Check with a local gas station as they might know of nearby parks and usually have a local map to check. Have fun!

As soon as you cross a state line on an Interstate highway, stop at the first rest stop. It is usually a Welcome Center. There you can get free state roadmaps, booklets and brochures of attractions. The maps often have parks listed.
