We are having an ice storm which reminded me of a tip we do with our pets. If you have pets in a cage or tank, they will be hard to keep warm should the power go out. We keep those body/hand warmers on hand. They are the kind you would use while camping or at games when the weather is cold to keep you hands, toes, or body warm. They get hot and last from 8 to 12 hours depending on the type you get. These can be activated and placed under the cage or tank.
They won't keep your pets at the necessary high temperatures, but they will provide a warm spot they can curl up on. Just tape to the bottom of the tank near where they would normally sleep. We do this for our lizard, hamster, and hermit crabs. They find the warmth quickly, and we only have to worry about keeping ourselves and dog warm.

What a great idea. I wonder if they would work with a fish tank, on the outside of course. You are always full of great ideas!
Thank you for the great tip. I may try to put one under the chickens water tank to keep it from freezing during a storm when it would be hard to get to the coop. Awesome. '')
