Phone Line Repair?

Our phone line in our house isn't working. The line is working outside. What exactly do we need to do to repair this? We are told by our phone company they are responsible for the outside line only and we will have to pay to have this corrected. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.

Try unplugging all your phone lines inside the house from the jacks. Then dial your phone number from your cell phone. Let it ring. Then plug in one of your phones and see if it works

1.check all phones-receiver on--ok
2.disconnect from wall outlet and jacks all portable phones and answering machine-leave disconnected for 30 minutes-reconnect- check for dial tone- yes -ok-no call an electrican-there is a box from the phone co. where you can open -remove the jack- plug in your phone jack-listen for dial tone- i was told take several phone out because it may be one of the phone creating the problem.mine happened to be the outside line

Wonder if you can call and add the inside line protection, give it a few days, then call for your first service call?

We had the same problem. For the time being you can buy a long extenstion line and plug it into the outside box. If you do not have this yet your sevice personel will put one in. AT NO EXTRA CHARGE.

inside you check each extension cord with phone that will work in each jack with no outside power source. On old bell phone will do.
sometimes the lines to the jacks are at fault and can be replaced by you with new cord
bought a t Salvages on Dundurn St S by Cable 14 store
Most electronic stores will sell at a slightly higher price. YOU CAN DO IT YOURSELF.

We have the same problem with the inside lines being our responsability. Had to go through the house and unhook all phones and keep plugging in a phone in the outside jack til we found out what line was causing the problem. It turned out the two jacks we plugged the phones into were bad and replaced them. I think there is a small device
from Radio Shack that will test the inside lines and let you know where the problem is. Would have to ask if still available or maybe a place that sells phones might have one .

The other way is how we did it and take the jacks apart and keep testing with a plug in phone til find the problem.
Best of luck in hunting down what is causing your problem.

When we moved into our new place, the phone line was cut leading into our mobile home. The phone company said they it would cost us $150.00 to put in the phone line into the house and one jack. Each additional phone jack would cost $50.00. Well that's too much money for us. So we went to Home Depot and bought the line we needed and phone jacks and my husband installed them himself. I didn't see him install them but I know the people at Home Depot might help you. Turned out to be much cheeper.

Recently we have experienced phone line noise on my home office phone. It occured after a terrible thunder and lighting storm in mid-Michigan on Aug. 5, 2008.

I called my phone company, Sage Telecom and they said, 'it's your phone equipment.' We had just purchased a new fax/phone/copier machine, the same kind we have had for over ten years.

Am I missing something here? Each of the other phones on the same line have no noise problem. Could it be that the line into my office has been damaged? Or, could the modular plug-in be at fault?
