Shoe Lift to Relieve Back Pain

I am an orthotist that treats for scoliosis. About one quarter of the people with scoliosis also have a leg length discrepancy. The patient will usually have pain in their back where the dimple is to the side of the spine. A lot of people get relief simply by putting a small lift inside their shoe to level them out - incredible. Your foot really is attached to your leg and your leg to your body.

Where would one get a shoe lift and do you have to have a prescription from a doctor?

Are you referring to a simple Scholl's insert or something different? If different, where do you get a shoe lift ... in/near Austin, TX.

Thanks for the great information; I have been suffering from that pain for 20 year now. How do you know what leg is longer and what size of lift to use?

Lay patient down on back-pull legs and back out straight. Measure from navel to inside of each ankle joint (Mark each ankle joint right below the protrusion before you measure). 1/4 inch can make a huge difference. Also-if you look into mirror-you will also notice a shoulder drop (on the side of the leg shortage)-women will notice their purses fall off that side of shoulder.

We (Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics) sell Adjust-A-Lifts for $15 and you do not have to have perscription. Most drug store also carry something simular. Hope this helps.
