Reusing Old, Broken Speakers

We often find those torn speakers at the dump or road side. Take the speaker and separate the magnet from it. Drill a small hole in the center of it and thread an eye hook through the hole. Now attach a good length of strong string or fishing line to it and you have a powerful magnet for fishing, picking up a dropped tool, looking for stuff in water or lost treasures at the beach. And they come in all strengths, depending on the size of the speaker!

You can also use the speaker cabinet on the wall in your shop or garage, either sideways or vertically. Sideways you gain more storage area, both inside of it and on top of it! Attach it to the wall with a couple of screws or nails. You've devised two purposes for the old speaker and recycled two items (the magnet and the cabinet) from extinction!

If the cabinet is still in really good condition, a new speaker can be refitted to it. (We used to be able to replace just the speaker cone and magnet.)

Who knew there were magnets in speakers? Good to know. And I like that you kept the speaker out of the landfill.
