I have a carry on bag that was stored in a closet that a cat urinated in. Now the bag smells TERRIBLE! Anything that is put into the bag also stinks when I take it out. I can't throw it in the washer because it has a cardboard panel in the bottom to help keep its shape. How do I clean it? HELP! There are also other luggage pieces from that closet that will need to be cleaned as well.

I would cut, clip, or chop the cardboard from the bottom and wash it. It can't be used as it is! As for the other pieces, I know of a product called Nature's Miracle that is an emzyme eater and I know for a fact it will remove odors of urine. We've carried it in our vet office for years and absolutly recommend it for this problem. You can wipe it on with a very saturated cloth, let it set, then dry with another cloth. That along with sunshine should do it.
Slice some raw potatoes and put them in the bottom. Leave in for a day or two. Should do the trick. I had spilled gasoline in the trunk of the car and it smelled terrible.
I doubt very much that you'll be able to clean it if the Urine has soaked into the cardboard. If no & it's ONLY on the fabric or plastic outside then here's the plan: First clean the area with shampoo & water then, the important steps to remove the ODOR:
To clean up pet urine:
# 1) Start by first cleaning the area with a Vinegar-Water solution: Use 2 -3 parts water mixed with 1 part Vinegar. (It's easiest to put this mixture in a well marked spray bottle) Clean & Blot, with a white towel or white rag.
NEXT: and this is the most important step: #2) Buy "OUT! " brand pet odor neutralizer at Walmart, it works by "eating" organic stains & odors by using "good bacteria and enzymes" it cost only $4.79 (If you can't find "OUT!" you can buy any Brand of "Pet Odor Neutralizer". Just look for the words "cleans w/enzymes")
* The main trick is to keep the "OUT!" wet so the good bacteria stay "alive" by covering the area with plastic wrap or an unused plastic garbage bag.
# 3) The second day: Repeat the application of the "OUT" product. # 4) The third day: Pour plain old drugstore hydrogen peroxide on the area & let it fizz & bubble up anything that's left. Do this & I can bet your pet urine smell will disappear!
* Be careful to pre-test the carpet in a discreet area before using the Hydrogen Peroxide, just to make sure the carpet won't fade. (I've use peroxide many, many times to clean spots on my carpet & upholstery & it's never hurt my carpet, upholstery or any clothes fabric.
* Peroxide works to remove ANY organic stain (that means it will remove grape juice which is natural, but not grape Jell-O or grape kool-aid which is artificial, anyway... you get the idea.) Peroxide will also remove Blood, Coffee, & Hot Chocolate!
if you only knew how many things (including luggage) our well one of our 8 cats peed on! vinegar is the only thing that will get rid of the odor and then let it set outside for a while. the cardboard bottom is rough..can you slit the seam to remove it and then "glue" the seam later?
