Banquet Dessert Ideas?

I was trying to make a layer cake, twice now, erghh. Both cakes have broken apart when I tried to cut them. They are delicious, but now all in pieces mostly. I don't want to waste them by throwing them out. I need a dessert for 2 different banquets. Any ideas? I was thinking along the lines of trifle, maybe.

Make fan garnishes of whole strawberries by slicing from just below the stem. Garnish assembled trifle with fanned strawberries, reserved kiwi slices, and a sprig of mint. Refrigerate until serving.

You don't say what flavor the cake is that you're making. You could take the cake pieces and layer them with pudding and canned pie filling and make a Trifle. For instance, chocolate cake, chocolate pudding and cherry pie filling. Get the idea? One layer of cake, one layer of pudding, one layer of pie filling and repeat ending with the pie filling. Very pretty also. Hope this helps.
