Choosing the Right Smoke Alarm?

In our house we have ionization smoke alarms, which is too sensitive and goes on whenever I cook in kitchen. This happens even if there is no smoke.

On a blog I read that photoelectric smoke alarms are the best choice to use. Is this correct? We have to total 6 units in house, so if we need to replace it do we have to replace all of them?

Please advise.
