I have a yeast allergy myself, and wanted to tell you that when animals (or people) take anti-biotics the anti-biotics kill the "good" bacteria in the body leaving it open to the bacteria that cause yeast infections. If your dog already has a yeast allergy, it may react to the anti-biotics in the same way it does to yeast. I know that dogs pretty much can take the same things humans can, and humans should take acidolphilus (you can get this in the vitamin section of most grocery stores or any healthfood store).

Hi I want to thank you so much for your info re my yorkie's yeast allergy. I am absolutley going crazy with how to treat her. This has been going on for months now with much money spent. She is now on an antibiotic and an itch medication and I still see no results. I read the great dane lady's article many times and am so afraid to order anything from the internet as people are advising me not to in addition to my vet. Please help me as her ears are really very very pink, almost fiery red. We have tried different medications in them but she is very sensitive and they get worse.

I have been on the site of the great dane lady and have found many good tips on it. However she is offering Nzmes that I am afraid to use, as I was advised by my vet and other people not to buy anything from the internet without first consulting my vet, which I did and he disagreed with this. My dog had a skin test this past week which confirmed that she indeed has a yeast allergy. She is nowa on an antibiotic in addition to prednisone for her itch. I am totally against this but what can I do if this was prescribed, as I am actually going crazy in trying to help her.

But it makes so much sense what you are saying. I did call a health food store here in Montreal, and they do have this medication. Do you think I should buy this for her and try it??
Never feed a pet canned pet food. If you suspect yeast, go to the health food store and get Acidolphylus, a gentle supplement that can be used for pets. Yeast is often the results of too much grain in the diet, or too much YEAST in the gravy. For dogs, they need more meat since they are carnivores, but a LITTLE BREAD/VEGGIEs is ok, I understand. Just follow the supplement's directions, usually 1 capsule for a human size animal a day until well. Smaller animals need less, depending upont the comparison with a human's size.
Also, yeast can come from too little water to wash food down with, or from giving a pet beer or from too much BREAD. Good luck and God bless. : )
Lexee does have a yeast allergy has she was given a skin test. I changed her food from kibbles to Wysong Turkey for a short time as this contains no grains which is what she is not to have. However I am now homecooking for her such as Chicken/vegetables Fish/vegetables and Ground meat/vegetables. I am now finishing the antibiotics that the vet gave her whcih will be on Monday. I then am going to try the Acidolphilus as many people have suggested this. She is not getting better and this has been going on for a long time.
Apple Cider Vinegar was also suggested. Does anybody else out there know about this remedy? A kind lady from this site swears by this and I put it into her water, but she is not drinking with this in it.
Doesn't bread contain yeast? I am thinking about a holistic vet to see. I am now keeping her on a very natural diet. Yeast allergies take a long time to remedy and during this period the dog is very uncomfortable. Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.
