Are Dog Bones Made for Teeth Cleaning Safe?

Just a simple query: I've been feeding my dog bones especially created for cleaning their teeth. Though I haven't asked my vet, I'm wondering if there is any reason not to feed him these sorts of bones? He seems to enjoy them a lot. Any ideas as to why would it likely be bad for him?

I have recently read reports that Greenies dog biscuits for cleaning teeth have killed some dogs. From what I understand the bones do not break down and chunks can block their intestines. I would suggest phoning your vet for their opinion on which ever brand you are using.

Hard cooked medium-large bones are o.k. I would stay away from any small cooked ones.Cooked chicken bones are a huge no. They can splinter & damage their mouths, throats, all the way down to puncturing an organ.

Raw bones are fine because they are soft. I have read about the greenies too. I bought some but threw them away after reading those stories. It's not worth the risk.

We have a Great Dane mix and a Pom. We give our dogs a variety of bones. They love them. Our Dane seems to have a more sensitive stomach. When something disagrees with her, we just make note and don't buy it again.
Buy bones that relate to your dogs size. That way the dog won't sallow the whole bone.

I have had one of my dogs for 21 years and we give him ONLY beef bones because they're soft and they keep his teeth clean.I don't give them pork because they splinter the same as chicken.now I pressure cook chicken for him and give him the rib and back bones but mostly I give him the bones from 7 bone roasts. Please don't give him "greenies" .after watching CNN,I called my daughter and she threw a whole new sack away.because she didn't want to take any chances.
