We have dead mice in our attic. They ate the poison and ran away from sticky trap we bought from Home Depot. We opened all walls and know exactly which area the bad smell is coming from. The thing is we are badly near sighted and could not see clearly inside. Could somebody give us suggestions?

I know the smell is really bad now but it will get better. This doesn't help you find the mice but trust me, the smell will go away if you give it some time. I know this isn't the answer you were looking for but I think it might be your only alternative right now. Good luck!

YUK, been there. It will disappear. Honest. You've learned a big lesson. Don't use poison for killing inside rodents. These poisons are blood thinners that let them blead to death. Not a pleasant way to die. They will crawl away and hide themselves to die every time. Live traps are good, but unfortunately they do re-enter your home. Make sure there are no attractions; paper products, insulation for nests, lots of clutter around where they hang out for them to hide in, food items left in cupboards where they can reach.
If you use a snap trap use rubber gloves when handling them. They can smell your scent on them. Also try something to bait them with they can't run off with like peanut butter. Remember: these little devils can get into a hole the size of a dime so all small holes should be plugged with tin. You could also get a cat or two. They can be very good to get rid of rodents.
This happened to us a few years back. The smell was very bad. The dead mice were inside the walls and we could not get to them. A friend told us to put fresh coffee grounds into a few spaces that were open. I did not know exactly where the dead mice were but we threw about 3 cups of fresh ground coffee into the spaces.
Advice I learned from an exterminator: Do not use Decon inside your house, mice will eat it then crawl into your walls to die. The best thing to do is to place bait traps outside your house - it will draw mice out. But only if you do not have nearby cats, because if they come across a poisoned mouse and eat it, they too will become poisoned.
Also, if you have a crawl space with outside access, putting a king snake or rat snake in that area will help get rid of the mice and maybe even deter mice coming in.
