Our son is getting married this July. (2008) Does anyone have any ideas for wedding reception table decorations/favors? We've done the Hershey Kiss long stemmed roses and personalized fortune cookies with our own fortunes. Since we'd like to do 300 or more, we'd like them to be affordable but memorable.

As far as favors, we did a hershey's kiss placed in a colored plastic spoon, mesh placed over it tied with a ribbon with a tag that read "A SPOON FULL OF KISSES FROM THE MR. AND MRS."
It was really cute and inexpensive.
One wedding party I attended had wine glasses with balloons tied to them and they were partially filled with either mints or hershey candy bars in gold...loved eating the chocolate. You could order personalized M & M's.
I have also seen Yankee candle votives personalized.
I am using cookie cutters but I also liked stir spoons (plastic spoons dipped in chocolate like for your coffee), Cookies. Depending on the season ornaments, sea shells, packet of flowers (forget me nots).
Oriental Trading Company has a lot of affordable ideas for party favors. I used the candy wrappers that said, "Welcome to our wedding". I also go bubbles and clappers and personalized them myself. I also used wine goblets, (I gathered from yard sales and thrift stores) and put silver tinsel in them, glass decorative marbles would be pretty or candles would be pretty too! Good luck! There have been many good ideas posted by others on here!
Homemade apple butter, jellies, calendars of the current year with photo of bride and groom. Red, white and blue colors could be used because of the July 4th holiday.
I don't know if you would necessarily consider this a favor, but it went over great at our wedding. We put disposable cameras on each table and asked our guests to take snapshots of each other and things happening at the reception that our photographer might not get.
My cousin took small glass flowerpots, about 2 or 3" she put some small pebbles in the bottom and a small amount of wild flower seeds in netting on top of the rocks. They attached a little poem about planting the flowers and thinking of the couple when they come up.
This is unique and affordable. Buy some matchboxes and empty the match sticks. Use scrapbooking paper and embellishments to decorate the boxes and put a mini-chocolate bar inside. It fits perfect. The ways to decorate them would be endless.
Congrats! I, too am getting married in June!
We bought a flat of treelings. They were spruce I think. Very inexpensive! We wrapped the roots in saran wrap, attached a bow and gave one to each guest for them to plant. Many guests still talk of our wedding trees.
For my sisters wedding, we wrapped herseys kisses with werthers candies together with a note saying "Werthers kisses, there's love. Thank you from the Mr. and Mrs."
I am planning my fall wedding & have a small budget. Instead of vases for each table, I have asked friends to save me anything cyclinder shaped (crystal light containers, pringle potato chip cans, mailing tubes, etc), covering them in solid color wrappping paper. These are free except for wrapping paper. If you collect enough, 3 of different sizes on each table looks for pleasing design wise.
Good luck!
We are handing our CFL light bulbs with a note attached saying "Weve found the light of our lives, here's one for you!" Our wedding has a very eco friendly twist to it, and who CAN'T use a CFL? I want my guests to use the bulb to save some energy, save some money, and every time they turn it on I want them to think "haha lightbulb from the wedding!"--
My mother in law hates the idea, says it is too preachy and too hardcore eco friendly. But we love it!We thought about tree saplings, but then if people don't plant them and they die, that's a total waste of a tree!
For my wedding we are making chocolates and then donating money to a charity that is close to us. Just a heads up 70% of all favours are either left behind or thrown out unless edible. So why not just save the money and give everyone a yummy snack with a tag saying thank you and telling them that a donation has been made in their honour. :-)
My daughter is going to have a candy station at her wedding. I am hoping it goes over well. Then she is putting a frame in the middle with a saying "how sweet it is to be loved by you". That way they can choose what candies they do like, but I do like all the unique ideas so far.
How about little bottles of bubbles? I just purchased some for my daughter's reception. I was able to buy 8 bottles in a box for only a $1.00 at the Dollar Store. I also bought at the Dollar Store monogrammed letters to stick unto the bottles.
We are getting married this October and what we are gonna do is make compact disks with our wedding music on them.
