A&D Ointment As Night Cream

A wonderful night moisturizing cream, possibly in your medicine cabinet! I stumbled across a wonderful, cheap nightcream. A & D Ointment. It sounds crazy, but it has done wonders for my skin. (I am in the 50+ category) I had a procedure done on my eyes, and the doctor recommended using it to sooth the skin.

After a few days, I began to notice how smooth and soft the skin around my eyes was, so I started to use it all over my face. Redness disappeared, and so did small blemishes and dark spots, amazing, and I am a user of expensive cosmetics! Give it a try, it certainly can't hurt and it might save you lots on expensive night creams.

I tried this last night, since my skin was chapped from our unusually cold weather, and it worked wonders! I would never have thought of using it on my face, so thank you for mentioning it.

I stumbled across this very same thing - thought i was going crazy putting A&D onitment on my face and wow such results -- amazing - almost 50.

March 14, 20092 found this helpful

I thought I was crazy. I just discovered this amazing trick. I had been using an expensive brand of mineral make-up, touted to be so good for your skin you can sleep in it. At 50, my skin was worse than it had ever been as a teenager. My face stayed red, irritated, and itchy, with constant breakouts of hard, sore knots especially in the t-zone. After some research online, I discovered I was not the only one who had this problem. Seems the bismuth in the make-up causes allergies for some people, apparently me.

Stopped using the make-up, started applying the zinc-oxide formula of A&D to help with the itching, and made the miraculous discovery of the secret for my sensitive skin! Within 3 days, remarkable improvement, and after several weeks, total recovery. I'll keep using it from now on! I was disappointed that I couldn't use the make-up because I loved the idea of the minerals, and the ease of application. After more research, I found a few brands of mineral make-up without the bismuth ingredient. My favorite is Physician's Formula, easy to find at regular stores (Walmart), reasonably priced especially compared to some brands found online. Hope this keeps someone else from going through the aggravation, and discomfort that I did.

A and D ointment is found in the baby diaper section. It is a creme or ointment for diaper rash, or chapped skin.

Hi Furleg, In case you're wondering what A & D ointment is, it's made for babies' diaper rashes. Check out your stores tho, it's been around long enough and popular enough it's more than likely available world wide.

It's medicated so I can believe that it may just work like these ladies said it does. I'm thnking of trying it!

ReneBrewer, not such a silly question. Anyone who hasn't had a baby (and some lucky ones who have) may not have heard of A & D. Check out my previous post here tho.

A & D ointments main ingredient is vitamins A & D. A & D are very healing, just like desitin ointment, which sticks a whole lot better. I have used a & d on my hands, when they are really sore. Before bed, I rub in a lot of it & put on cotton gloves.

It is amazing how it heals the skin... Something that is good for all sorts of skin issues, is taking A & D inside. You need to take more than the RDA, which is a joke, by the way. It is great for mucus membranes & skin, among others.

April 5, 20210 found this helpful

The main ingredients are actually Petroleum 53%, and lanolin 15%. The Vit A and D is derived from cod liver oil. Other ingredients are fragrance, light mineral oil, microcrystalline wax, and paraffin, in that order.

I'm in England. Would it be a generic Nappy Rash type cream? I have seen them advertised with Zinc Oxide in, would this be a good thing?

I don't want to start putting the wrong thing all over my face. Thank you.

August 17, 20180 found this helpful

Do not use zinc oxide ointment on broken skin it will burn your skin and make it more irritated. If you don't have a petroleum based ointment you can make your own with 3 ingredients, you will need lanolin and petrolatum or petroleum (same thing just different names) and fish oil pharmaceutical grade like cod liver oil you take as a supplement. Mix in a 1-1-1 ratio add some vitamin e oil as well and apply make a batch as big as you need

May 11, 20091 found this helpful

For those of you who do not live here in the USA,
A&D Ointment is not the same as zinc oxide ointment. It is a clear ointment, while zinc oxide is thick and white.

The ingredients in A&D Ointment are: Cod Liver Oil ( which contains the vitamin A and the vitamin D) light mineral oil, paraffin, fragrance,Lanolin 15.5% and microcystalline wax.It is a copyright of Shering-Plough Healthcare Products.
However, most drug stores, and even some grocery stores have it under their own label/brand. At CVS, and Walgreen Drug Stores, it is in the "Baby" aisle.
But at the grocery stores, it is where the bandaids, skin care and other ointments are stocked.

Hope this helps y'all.
We use it for a lot of things like chapped lips, cracked skin on your heels, and rough elbows too.

Does anyone have any suggestions or solutions to minimize the appearance of lines that appear around lips as we age. I love wearing lipstick but even with lip liner, the lipstick tends to creep into the lines around my lips. THose of you who have tried the A&D Ointment, do you think that would help? Thanks to all for any successes you would like to share!

To summergirl! Hello! My aunt, age 90, suggests in addition to using lots of moisturizer and sunscreen, you smile a lot! That gets rid of the wrinkles around the mouth for a little while! She is a hoot! Smiling helps with those wrinkles between the eyes we get when we frown. So, let's all smile as much as possible. It is free!

I love A&D too. I'm "of a certain age" and it is great on my face; whether to smooth crow's feet or to dab on a zit, to aid in faster healing.

Elbows, heels, scrapes, little "owies" all seem to benefit from A&D.

I did some research on line, because of an allergic reaction I believe from fish oil. I got an red rash under my eye.It cleared it up beautifully. In fact, I have been using it as a night cream for a few days. I usually use men's nivea products. I woke up and my skin looked so great! I now apply a&d under my eyes and face before I go to bed. What a difference! I had great skin prior, but love how this works! High recommend. I am a male almost 50!

I've given a lot of thought too. but with all these positive reviews, I'm definitely using it on my face. I plan to comment on the results in a couple of months, thanks everybody.

I can see why this would work. Going to try it, expecially with winter coming. I am 50+ and have been having bad skin issues due to the big M. Sweating so bad in the summertime has my skin so raw on my face. So I tried using something to protect my skin and it works amazing!. Not only to protect and soothed my skin but, as a great makeup primer. (actually works better than a BB cream).

Try some Chafing Relief Powder-Gel. Goes on silky smooth, no harsh chemicals, not greasy and fragrance free. My daughter found this on the net and I was really shocked how well it worked.

June 23, 20140 found this helpful

I have been using petrolium jelly and products with at least 40% zinc oxide on my face for about six months now and I am really starting to see amazing results. I am in my late forties and recently got complimented on how smooth and soft my facial skin looked! I was thrilled and told my friend what I had been using as a"night cream".

The skin around my eyes is much more soft and smooth and the wrinkles have really been reduced. Good luck to all who are thinking of giving this a try.

I loved this post! I've been using A&D ointment on my face, feet, & as a weekly DIY hair treatment and I've had great results so far. It's the yellow A&D ointment, not the white type. I'd like to link this article to the blogpost I wrote. This stuff really works well & very quickly!

One of the posters mentioned that she uses zinc oxide on her face. Zinc oxide is now recognized as a cancer causer. It is used in other things too, such as sun block. It would be better to use something else.

There is no evidence that zinc oxide causes cancer. While there were studies conducted about the possibility (which is probably why she thought zinc oxide did cause cancer) there has been now proof to back the claim, as per the research conducted eventually concluded.

I can find no credible evidence that zinc oxide in sunscreen is a carcinogen. Most sites recommend it for preventing skin cancer. Here is a link with more information about this concern, from the company Badger Balm.

I don't know about the zinc oxide causing cancer but I do know that products such as Desitin contain talc. And talc is known to cause cancer.

It has no talc. None. It's got cod liver oil and vitamin a. It's not even a powder.

October 9, 20180 found this helpful

A&D has a multitude of uses. On my side time I like to do local mma and mixed martial arts. But sometimes a good scrap can leave me looking rough. To rough to be going into work looking like I was in a car wreck. Myself and many others keep it in our lockers or in my gym bag. Just last week my cheek bone and bottom eye lid where black and blue. I applied a generous amout to the affected area and by the next morning it was almost completly diminished. It was like a miracle when I discovered it!

Well A&D ointment is like 50% lanolin and 50% petroleum.. lanolin is one of the things skin absorbs most and petroleum jelly is GREAT for wrinkles so those two combined you cant go wrong!! (:

I've used It for a couple of years for my break outs. BEST THING EVER! With out it my pimples would take about 2 wks to heal but with it just a couple of days and Gone! I literally have one in my nightstand, the bathroom and in my purse lol

November 21, 20181 found this helpful

I guess I'm not the only one that stumbled across this miracle. I've been using it off and on for a long time. I was actually putting it on my face in the morning during the winter months to keep the chapping down, then realized putting it on at night allowed it to seep in. After a few days, wrinkles and facial blemishes pretty much vanish and my skin has more than even tone.

Skin Protectant. Inactive Ingredients: Cod Liver Oil (Contains Vitamin A & Vitamin D), Fragrance, Light Mineral Oil, Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin."

I was wondering if anyone else did this? I get my Vitamin A&D cream at the Dollar Tree! Vitamin A is a type of Retinyl great for reducing wrinkles! Vitamin D is also great for the skin! I also purchase Vitamin E ( at the Dollar Tree) split open the capsules & place the oil under my eyes and on my lips b4 bed every night! Wake up with my skin glowing!

November 5, 20190 found this helpful

I use to use vitamin E on my face but recently started having a reaction to it. I recently had my lips tattooed and the woman told me to use this for faster healing. After researching A&D Im definitely going to try it in replacement of the vitamin E!

When my dad was in the hospital, the nurses used to rub A and D ointment on his face, arms and legs. They pretty much used it like lotion after they would bathe him, and dang if he didn't look at least 10 years younger! We were shocked! We all started using it after that. I buy it in 1-lb. tubs.

Just within 2 usages it is a huge improvement. I am going.g to start applying it all over my face as a night cream starting tonight

I have psoriasis on my scalp can I use the A&D ointment on my head for my psoriasis?

December 8, 20210 found this helpful

The best scalp treatment imo was Psoriacin shampoo which I believe is discontinued however you can get the exact equivalent in the T-Sal shampoos with 3% salicylic acid (by Nutragena) at your local pharmacies. (Not all chains carry it). It is clear in a small bottle with no scents, preservatives or dyes added. Only use a small dime-sized amount twice a week and prepare to be amazed. Lather and wait 5 minutes (or until you feel a slight burning whichever comes first) it will totally remove your scales. I personally use both T-Sal first (for 5 minutes) and immedately after I use Nutrogena T-Gel for 5 minutes (T-Gel contains coal tar). Some people hate the smell of coal tar so if you are one of them then I would personally use Nizoral's Anti-Dandruff Shampoo containing ketoconazole or for a cheaper alternative Selsun Blue's Medicated Maximum Strength Dandruff Shampoo which contains selenium sulfide. (Both ketoconazole and selenium sulfide are antimicrobials which help reduce the amount of yeast on your scalp).

Well ! I had my eyebrows micro bladed a month ago and the beauty therapist gave me one sachet of A&D Fougera ointment. She told me to use the least amount as it is very humectant after using it for a week I noticed the skin around my forehead and eyes, became very soft and smooth I then started to use only a little as night cream and only today, decided to look it up online. I found this site and I can see I am not alone in noticing how fabulous this ointment is on the face I hope is the same ointment all you ladies are talking about. My only concern, are any potential side effects and if perhaps if it can be can used it can be used day moisturiser?

Its def a keeper!
