Alternative Scents for Rainbow Vacuum?

Does anyone know of any alternatives that can be used instead of the regular scents that you put into your rainbow vacuum cleaner? I don't have any stores near me that sell them and don't want to buy them online without being able to smell them first. I thought about putting liquid potpourri in it but I don't know if that would work and how much I should use? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

My husband is a huge fan of our rainbow vac. (It's his big chore, and always looks for ways to make it more fun) He buys herbal extracts from the grocery store (Whole Foods would have tons) like peppermint, vanilla, eucalyptus, etc. He says it only takes two to three drops from an eyedropper to really work well. He said your idea of liquid potpourri would work fine, too. Just don't add too much right off the bat, because wow, it can really fill the house. Good luck!

I ordered an off brand on line and it created a lot of foam and stopped my rain mate up. Used a toothpick to clean it.

We have hard water and I use liquid potpourri in mine...I get a lot of build up which completely dissolves with a 1/2 scoop of Iron Out powder & warm water to fill. After a few hours soaking I can dump it and wipe clean with paper towel. So much $aving$

What about using doterra or revive essential oils? Will they ruin the vacuum?

In the water chamber, when you add the fresh water, add a few drops of essential oil of your choice.
Wal-Mart sells these oils for 2 or 3 dollars, and one container will last for several uses.

I worked for a local resort and vacuuming was one of my chores, and this is the method they used.

You definitely should not be using essential oils from Walmart they are synthetics!!

What department for you get them in in Walmart?

March 18, 20181 found this helpful

Walmarts or Better Homes brand is not 100% pure at all (more like perfume) and would not last long at all in in your water(if you have a rainbow vac that cleans the air and and want lasting scents 24hr esp). They really are no good compared to Young Living, Plant Therapy etc.

and those brands are clean for your body. I have been putting drops of Young Living drops of Christmas Spirit on my rainbow and I like it. Definitely last longer than the Better Homes & Gardens that I tried out just to try :)

March 18, 20180 found this helpful

I do! Young Living and Plant Therapy brand to run all day.

June 10, 20184 found this helpful

Absolutely not.
Too oily . I do not know what the rainmate fragrances are made of but they aren't oily enough to clog up a rainmate like the oils will.

I've heard of fabric softener but again. I am afraid to try anything but the rainmate fragrances.

GuruNanda essential oil brand are sold thru walmart and are a good brand! U can also get the NOW brand online from walmart ..and are also very good. Real not synthetic. The thrive and the natures shield are comparable to thieves of the much more expensive brand!

December 28, 20180 found this helpful

U can use all but the eucalyptus. It somehow gums it up. But u can use it in the rainbow 'vacuum' but the rainmate has that piece that gets clogged with it.

Do not put oil in your rainbow! Of anykind! Essential oils clog the mechanics and degrade the plastic, over time it will break, even crack open, your rainbow/rainmate.
**WATER BASED scents only!**

Hi I used to work for Rainbow and using any oils/fragrances not approved by Rexair voids your warranty and can also cause build up around your motor.

Rainbows do not use "motors"

March 4, 20182 found this helpful

Motors are electric, engines are combustion. The rainbow has a motor, your car has an engine.

August 22, 20180 found this helpful

Yes rainbow dose use motors in the unit.all see model and new G systems. I repair rexair units plus the Quatium units. Now facts you use different company fragrances in them but you have to clean the machine at least every 2times to be on the safe side. That includes cleaning also the gaskets. Bit if you don't that's job security for me. Lol

Can you please let me know what & how to clean the Rainmate & Rainbow vacuum, I posted below, I just got both this week and he didn't say anything about having to clean it or how to clean it & I'm worried about my warranty after seeing some people's reviews. Thank you

My wife and I have had our Rainbow for about 15 years and still love it! We use the Rainbow oils most of the time, but if we run out, we've found that fresh Orange, Lemon or Tangerine peels added to the water will also give a good fresh Citrus smell. And the natural Citrus oils are light enough to add freshness without clogging the system as much as a heavier oil might. Twisting, crushing or tearing the peels before adding, also helps to release more of the Citrus oils/fragrance into the water.

How much fabric softener would you use

June 23, 20144 found this helpful

I also used to work for Rainbow. Basically when you take your machine in for repair they can say anything they want to void your warranty; your separator wasn't cleaned, you used a non approved fragrance, etc.

August 16, 20160 found this helpful

That is so funny!

Sadly that is true. I too worked for rainbow and the separator was dirty was the first thing the man I worked for said when I took mine in. I called him on it though bc I was one that cleaned it with a toothbrush every time or two that I used it. IF you use anything besides the fragrances be sure it does not suds. That will burn the Motor out.

And they will.

Can you explain what I need to do to clean the rainmate or the rainbow vacuum? I just got both this week & he didn't say anything about how or what to clean. He also was saying how we'd not have to buy filters, belts etc like was on our new vacuum we had just bought but yet I was looking on eBay for the accessories & there's tons of belts & things. I'm worried about my warranty after seeing some people's reviews. Thank you

My husband and I just bought a used Rainbow, and LOVE it!! I didn't have any of the oils, so my husband suggested we try the oil in our Reed diffuser..... it worked amazingly well!!! It is one of our favorite scents (Yankee Candle Sage and Citrus). Our house smeled awesome!

A ¾ dose of your favorite fabric softener is quite long lasting.

June 5, 20180 found this helpful

3/4 of what? tsp, tblspn, container?

August 23, 20180 found this helpful

I assume 3/4 dose means 3/4 capful (or 3/4 of amount recommended for a regular laundry load...)

January 5, 20180 found this helpful

I prefer to use pure essential oils in my water basin. There are hundreds of blends or you can make up your own! Just keep the drop count to 3-5 total.

For those adding products that foam, our dealer suggested to add a few drops of Jet Dry, Finish (etc.), will allow scented product and minimize or reduce foaming. I like adding splash-less Clorox, once a month with Jet Dry (just a few drops) helps to reduce fungi in the air during winter. We live in Alaska this help reduce common cold repetitiveness in ones home.

Great idea but I did just learn on the bottles of bleach. The splashless and the scented ones they are not real bleach for germ killing. It says on the bottle that is for whitening clothes etc. Only the plain bleach kills 99 percent of germs. And I never see the plain bleach go on sale and also it is the most expensive of all the bleaches.

FYI, Essential oils may smell great, but they are actually extremely potent. Damage and deterioration is a common problem to plastic containers. Glass is a better option for essential oils because the oils cannot be damaged by the inert nature of the glass.

If you are using diluted essential oils, plastic containers, specifically PET, are okay, but not ideal. Diluted essential oils can come in the form of lotions or other personal care products.

I've used fabric softener, laundry pearl additives, dollar tree liquid air freshener, vanilla concentrate, and just about anything else you can imagine. The rainbow oils last the longest by far, but not enough to justify the cost for me.
So, I save the good stuff for when we have company, and use the cheaper stuff to vacuum.
Healthy side? I just don't care that much. It's purely for my enjoyment. I'm 40 and have used a rainbow for 20 years. I just bought a new rainbow and it is super cool. The vacuum has an option for leaving it on silent as an air purifier constantly. The wet floor cleaner uses the same hose. It's time consuming which deters me from using it often, but if you get a new rainbow, make sure it has the newer silent air purifier option.
Back to scents. I agree with fabric softener to save money. No, it's not healthy, but it works and is cheapest.
I've never had to clean any part of my rainbow other than the basin. FYI It's not dishwasher safe!!

Hello! I just joined. We purchased our new Rainbow with a Rain Mate in June of 2021. I asked the person doing the demo about essential oils. He told me that Essential Oils will cause the plastic to cloud over.
On the other hand, I was in the Rainbow Office on Monday of this week, where they keep a Rain Mate going all of the time, and I noticed - and pointed out to my S. O. who was with me, that there was a ring of oil around the inside edge, just floating there on top of the water.
Now I am not sure, however, it appears to me that they are actually using Essential Oils to have that happen.
I am doing the research on their blends. I hope to figure out how they make their scents and share the recipe any where I can on line. I am getting closer!!! Have a Blessed Day!

I was wondering if you use the rainbow vacuum to clean your floors youll get all kinds of bacteria in the plastic basin. Since we dont clean it with any chemicals because plastics absorb chemicals and hang onto them would it not also be the same for the bacteria? So then when you use it to purify your ear youre putting all that bacteria into the air would you not? Just curious to know how that would work
