I have had this problem before and saying something just goes in one ear and out the other and then they just think your being a nosey pest. What I did, I went out and bought the best Systemic Weed Killer. Cut the weed until you have a 2" stem, split the stem and spray into the split stem and the killer goes down to the roots and kills the whole weed root system, take all cuttings, vines and put in a garbage bag and put it out for pickup on garbage day. Do not throw in compost pile. Use a cheap plastic tablecloth and throw ALL in the garbage can. Remember, it only takes one piece of the weed to hit the ground and you will be back to square 1. Good luck, post how you made out.

You might ask the city dept. of public works for some advice. I imagine this is not an uncommon problem this time of year. Too bad you can't talk to your neighbors about it. Maybe there's a neighbor they will listen to - an intermediary? It's important to be nice but businesslike about it.

I understand its important to have your lawn look nice. But did anyone ever think that maybe they should be upset with you for putting WEED KILLER in to Mother Earth? Sometimes its more important to be a good neighbor then it is to worry over a few weeds..

There is more important things in life such as OUR TROOPS. Gee wonder how much they worry about weeds in their yard blowing over into someones elses yard... Lets get real... Life is to short, to worry about weeds..
God bless you if thats all you have in life to worry about... BUT....
Maybe you should think about helping our troops and their families rather then worry over afew weeds.

Maybe pull them out or kill them yourself...isn't it better than alienating your neighbor?

I'd write them a kind note, explaining the problem and telling them you are giving them a chance to help you determine if the weeds truly are coming from their property or what? If no response, THEN call the city and inquire. Suggestion: Birds may be dropping these seeds, wind may be carrying them, and depending upon the kind of weeds, even some

fertilizers/weed killers actually have weed seeds in them, I PROMISE YOU, and I have proven it to myself and others MANY TIMES. Also, if you do not rinse off the underside of your mower each mowing while the weeds are seeding, you will scatter more of them yourself, regardless of where they are from originally. Are you talking millions, hundreds, or less than fifty? If the latter, I'd try hand picking them. Also, NEVER LET THEM GO TO SEED. LEARN WHERE THEIR SEEDS ARE: on the stalks, at the base, in the pods, underground runners? Take one to a very reputable garden center and ask an elder there what it is, so you will know what to do about it.
If Dandelion, it reseeds from the puff balls. If clover, it reseeds from microscopic seeds and runners. Most weeds are seasonal, naturally dying back as the season passes.

If you mulch your lawn by letting your grass clippings fall back onto the grass after cutting, feed the grass properly and regularly, cutting lower during wet times/ higher during dryer times, and once a week watering the day after you mow, the grass WILL WIN, unless you have very poor soil, like mine has been. You may need to give it a lawn boosting "tonic". See Jerry Baker.com on the Internet, to see if he offers a few free suggestions for this. Weed seeds can also get trapped, dry out, and fall back to the soil to make sowing more weeds from the catcher/bag. Try removing/washing out/ using NO grass catcher/bag, to see if it helps. It may take a couple of months of mowing and trying these things to see. Be patient and don't get too upset with your neighbors. Afterall, people are more important than grass. They may have nothing to do with it. If the postman goes from their house to your's, even HE could be transferring the weed seeds. There are many factors to consider before concluding "they did it". If you are finally still convinced, try the letter. Good luck and God bless you.

Talk to the neighbor about it. Our neighbors used to let their dogs out to potty and the dogs roamed all over the place, including our yard, so when my husband mowed the yard the mower would fling dried dog dooey all over the place and he hated it. But he just talked to them about it. I guess the people who lived here before us were ok with it, but we don't have pets because we don't want to have to clean up their messes, so we certainly wouldn't want to have to deal with other people's pets' messes. Anyway, he talked to them once and now they hook the dogs up to a long leash when they put them out, so they can roam in their yard but can't get to ours. And we all still get along fine. It did not go "in one ear and out the other" because they are kind, reasonable people.

My neighbour neglected and then refused to deal with a problem overgrown tree/bush over a ten year period. Then one day I found a root that came from aforemetioned tree and I drove a few copper nails into it. Took a little while but my neighbour is now the proud owner of one less overgrown PITA tree.;)
