Have you tried soaking it in Oxyclean? I found if you use HOT HOT water first to disolve the Oxyclean, then add in some cooler water to soak the item in, it works really well.

Oxy type cleaners (peroxide ) are for organic type stains such as coffee and blood. Food coloring is a synthetic dye which requires a reducing agent to remove. Oxy can set the stain.

Homemade 'Oxygen' Cleaner Recipe #32716
The name brand is expensive but this is an inexpensive alternative and less harmful to your clothes than bleach!

1 cup hot water
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide

It removes even old blood stains!
Just soak the clothing in it for 20 minutes to overnight and then wash as usual.
This will not harm fabric like bleach.
It doesn't seem to harm colors either!
