Installing Laminate Flooring Over Ceramic Tiles?

I have a ceramic floor in my kitchen which is installed under the cabinets also. I have been thinking about putting a laminate floor down since I hate the ceramic tiles. Can the laminate floor be installed over the tiles? It would not be possible to remove the tiles under the cabinets. Thanks for your advice.

We're installing laminate wood in different rooms of the house. The manufacturer said it would not be good for kitchens or bathrooms. There is too much moisture.

Laminate over tile is NOT a good idea. How about an area rug to soften it up. Make it a washable one.

We have installed laminate over our ceramic tile with no problems! Just consider that this will raise the floor height so you will need to remove and reposition all base mouldings or they will look shorter. You will also need the proper transition pieces if the floor will be touching a different type of flooring in an adjoining room since the laminate will be slightly higher and not level because of the tile underneath.

Make sure you use a good vapor barrier and put area rugs in wet areas, such as in front of the sink, and you shouldn't have any problems!

How did your installation of laminate on top of tile work out? We have the same situation with the cabinets having been installed on top of the tile and had considered putting laminate down.
